Tesla Roadster 2020
I have posted this somewhat all over the forum and thought I would start a thread. Some of this will be repetition.Want to respect our 370Z forum.I have owned a lot of cars and this is the best forum I have been on.
First off.I love my 370Z twin turbo roadster. The epitome of a classic sports car. Tesla cars have intrigued me since I drove a Model S P 100 D.Unreal performance. I like roadsters and Tesla was just not building the car I wanted with performance, styling and price.Tesla started the company with a Roadster. Went back and forth on this because we have seen prototype but not production car and price is high. At my age I do not have time to wait for all the electric sports cars we will see introduced in the coming years. I put 50K down on the base 200k model. The Founders version will be out first at 250k.Prices before options but I do not want a self driving car option. That defeats the whole purpose of buying a sports car. I have listed this on another post but will list the specs again. 0-60 mph 1.9 seconds. 0-100 mph 4.2 seconds Quarter 8.8 seconds Top end above 250 mph All Wheel Drive 620 mile range on full charge. 7,376 Foot Pounds of Torque Tesla says the production car will have better specs than this. When do I get the car?Elon is not that great at meeting deadlines. So I will see. My insurance agent will be happy. I will post the good, bad and ugly of this adventure. Congratulations! What an amazing purchase. Electric supercars will easily outperform anything else!

Founders version out in 2020. I look to get mine late 2020 or early2021.
I have been crazy about cars my whole life.Since my 1948 Studebaker Starlight coupe that I got when I was 13. I grew up in the age of muscle cars.Had 1970 chevelle 396(In reality was a 402) in High School. 1974 Opec oil embargo. The price of oil quadruples. The 450hp + muscle cars are dead.Move forward to 1977 and the base Corvette puts out 180HP. New muscle car renaissance in my opinion started 1992 with Dodge Viper. Now we have more 450HP+ cars to choose from than every. I have owned over 60 interesting automobiles in my life.Runs the Gammit.Cars have always been a big part of my life.(Still hate doing body work). My whole life has been big V 8s.Nothing like exhaust note of an Italian V 8.(Diference in the cam shaft) Now we have come to a cross roads. They have solved the battery problem. The electric motor is takeing out the internal combustion engine. I have hands on knowledge of cars going back 70 years that I have worked on. Like it or not this is a Halo moment in Automotive History. I thought I need to experience this. 370Z Forum
Have been on a lot of car forums over the years with different cars I have owned.
The 370Z Forum is the best for help in making your car handle better and go faster. With the Tesla coming in the future I have been trying to learn about electric cars. Tesla forum is different when I ask questions about the motor performance or battery questions. A lot of Ellon Musk kool aid drinkers.Replys are all fluf and not technical. Like how they named thier car. Last edited by Baronsmokes; 12-24-2018 at 01:21 AM. Reason: spelling |

I'll be the slow guy in the roaring engine smelling my exhaust fumes and working on my engine... Not buying upgradeable battery packs. Thank you!

This is not easy for me ether. All car companies are headed in this direction. You can like it or not like it but it is happening. Steep learng curve.A lot more than just upgradeing battery packs. |

I know what electric boost can do on a sport hybrid, and can just imagine what it will be like on a sport-tuned pure electric. I’ve got no beef with electric, except range and the realities of charging once this format becomes mainstream. It’s autonomous that I cannot stand (though I can see the argument for that as well - just wait until I’m dust for it to happen, please). I hope that this car is everything you want and expect it to be. And that delivery is as quick as possible. Waiting is never fun, and that’s a long one. |

I'm curious how insurance will handle these. There's a lot of people buying them that have no idea how to handle that kind of power on the track, much less public roads. I know a few and fully expect one of them to be the first to wreck theirs

Performance wise the whole industry needs to reinvent themselves. Manufacturers of air filters, cams, turbos, exhausts...they have no market anymore in 10-15 years from now.
Next to that, cars are going to be so hard to work on, no way Tesla will let anyone break into their "engine management system". Also what are you going to do about the shock absorbers? They will all have adjustable air ride, And I bet you will have to put in over 7-8k USD before anything in the market upgrades what you will have from factory. So what's left? Brakes maybe? Different brake pads perhaps.. But think about it. The roadster is supposed to be such a good car... all I would want to spend money on is grippy tires and tracktime! I hope its something better. Electric cars still require fossil fuels to run due to charging via "outlet" and the batteries are highly toxic(maybe theres a good way to dispose of them I dont know about) Last edited by Zerafian; 12-24-2018 at 02:48 PM. |
