Personally, I'm against it. But with growing population and the resultant increase in traffic density, I predict that the days of sports and muscle cars are very limited. Any time there is a traffic fatality that can be blamed on operator error, manufacturers will be forced to add more nannies to protect us from ourselves. We already have VDC that can't be disabled without making modifications. As we wean ourselves from fossil fuels, rising MPG requirements will mean smaller and smaller ICEs. I hope you like electric.

For those who don't give a damn about driving, or are too self-important to pay attention, I pray that their vehicle has it and that it kicks in before they hit mine. As for me, that sort of thing will cause me to take my money to another brand - at least until they have all gone this way (due to changes in "industry standards", pressure from their legal departments, or legislation). If I can disable it legally (even with an "are you sure?" confirmation), then OK. Requiring a modification to remove the feature may well spell insurance problems in the event of an incident, though. Not something one thinks about before hand, buy you may wish you had considered that after, God forbid, something terrible has happened! I'm glad I'm old enough not to worry about losing all of my rights and privileges to suit the "lowest common denominator" driver, his lawyer, or his political representative. By the time that happens, I'll likely have surrendered my keys. Meantime, as long as my generation (baby boomer) still holds sway in the market, I think we're all safe. You are collectively welcome, for that, btw! DISCLAIMER: as more and more automotive executives and their advisors are driven to work by mommy or still need their diapers changed 5 times a day, THE END of things as we know it might come sooner than I think!!! |

If you're a conscientious driver I don't see what the big deal is as it shouldn't ever activate if you're paying attention. That said, it's there if you're ever eyeing that hottie on the side of the road at the wrong split second.

don't like, don't want
problem is some person has to program it to work... so there will always be a chance for error, along with some one trying to hack it and take control..

My wife's car has it. She has had the car for about a year, so I've driven it some. I've had the brakes activate a couple of times--quite the surprise! The first time I was going around the car in front of me as he was slowly making a left-hand turn but hadn't completely vacated our lane. Plenty of room, no issues imo. The car disagreed, and I wondered what in the hell all the beeping was about. A few seconds later I found out as the brakes were applied with force. Very unpleasant But I have learned to obey the beeps. Big Brother knows best, I guess. |

If they are this intrusive I'm definitely a proponent of adjustments for sensitivity and an off switch!

Some cars I think yes but they better not do this for the gtr or Z because the people who drive those cars ACTUALLY pay attention to the road ahead of them and we appreciate driving our car and enjoy the drive we go on. Most of these dumb people who drive nowadays are worried about texting or whatever else. I think people need to get smarter on the road. And if cars are doing things for us then it will make the human driver even more stupid....
