Don't forget to buy a nice vape if you get the WRX.

OptionZero 03-29-2017 02:47 PM

One is a sedan the other is a two seat coupe

i dont really see how they're comparable

also, they're still using that 2.5L turbo-4 that blows up from rod knock even stock

I do like it, but since I will see 30 on my short way to work everyday, I will go with something a lot less common here in Colorado. Say an Audi RS-Something or an AWD Supra?

Looks good though!

That's the STi. The base WRX uses the FA20, and it's holding up pretty well. The 2.5 is fine if you flash the ecu pretty much immediately after buying. There's a lean spot on spool up to meet emission regs, and it kills that motor fast. Get a good tune on it and it's pretty solid.

Johnny6.1 03-29-2017 03:14 PM

Don't forget that subie starter kit. 1.aforementioned vape kithe. 2. Hella horns, and 3. Flat brim hat.

I have a buddy with a sti nice car but wouldn't get rid of Z for it

Jayhovah 03-29-2017 03:19 PM

I'd only buy a WRX is if I was moving to colorado or building a Factory Five 818

Good call. Guy in my home town just finished his.

kenchan 03-29-2017 06:39 PM

dat new front looks a bit too plasticy for me (kinda like a honda fit front), but da sti's new 19's look nice. i hear they're supposed to include carplay on that gen so dat's kinda cool.

DCNISMO 03-29-2017 08:26 PM

They ripped off the S3 headlights and the Macan's lower bumper grills and the rear end of a Mercury something. Plus the grill is a bit Focus RS.

ChaseZ 03-29-2017 09:03 PM

Both CarPlay and the Android one whatever it's called.

Still wish they had a hatch tho...

CCastro 03-29-2017 09:18 PM

WRX or STi? I don't miss my Subie at all.... I got rid of my first Z for a Subie, now I'm back in my Z.

It just wasn't the car for me. I originally got it because I wanted something fast and to drive my grandparents around when I needed to. The Z Interior is a lot more refined than the WRX, I personally like how the Z handles. The WRX felt like it was constantly trying to kill me at the track or at least give me a heart attack. Every power mod needs a tune. Don't get me wrong, It was good car. I was pushing 295 WHP and over 300 WTQ, but felt nothing like the Z.

Z1NONLY 03-30-2017 10:49 AM

I have never driven a stock WRX or STi that turned anywhere near as well as a Z car.

The two cars (Subie AWD vs Z) are different animals.

shirokenkami 03-30-2017 12:48 PM

They haven't changed the engine in the STi for 13 years, still the same EJ25 making the SAME power it did in 2004. It's in bad need of a overhaul. Meh, I'd sooner get a new Mustang over a new STi and that's coming from a former Scooby-Ru fanboi!

I test drove a '16 rex, walked away unimpressed, it has the same TQ as the Z but when you actually flog it, it doesn't feel fast.... Not sure why but it feels like the car gives you 100% of its performance by 3-4k rpm and its dead after that, it actually felt quicker short shifting vs reving it out..........

the Z just keeps building power all the way to redline, which is more satisfying.

I always felt the Evo was the better of the two.

datz because u dont know how to drive the STI. stick with your skylark or watever cause ull probably end up blowing the engine as some newbs already have punching it in the wrong gear.

my Z feels flat to me beyond 4K RPM compared to my turbo cars.

those dat are posting shittt about da current STI dont know wtf ure talking about.
the aging Z is not at the same level as the STI as far as being a driver's car. the Z is a sporty "touring car" if u compared it with da current STI.

subaru took a combination of old technology and refined it. so if you like older tech cars like me, ull luv the STI. it is a fantastic car.

I also test drove a brand new Subaru WRX STI and I wasn't impressed at all. It had no torque compared to the 370Z. Also the interior felt and looked like a Toyota Corolla.

The only thing that distinguishes that piece o shyt from a corolla is that fvckin goofy azz poser wing it come with and the bbk. Otherwise, I'm confused as to which is which? Oh n I don't think they make corolla in low budget blue, like the Subaru.

uhhh... look at ur posts unknown. im not da one getting all upset. im just posting wat i feel about the current STI. i own both cars, i know wat im talking about.

can u even drive MT? like REALLY drive it? folks dat are complaining about torque on da STI is trying to pull in the wrong gear. remember, it's a 4 banger turbo. have to use upper RPM where most Z drivers would not downshift, u have to downshift on da STI. datz another reason why it's fun to drive too cause you really need to be good a driving MT to make this car go fast and da tranny is very forgiving if you're good at it.. like going into 1st gear at 18-20mph, no issue. :D u wouldnt even think of doing dat on a Z right? i mean i wouldn't, id just use 2nd gear. well guess wat, ure in da wrong gear den if u did dat on the STI.

i suppose if one was an avid S2K driver he/she'd know how to drive the STI properly. :iagree:

kenchan 04-02-2017 05:44 PM

ill leave it at dat.

I know how to drive stick. It's been awhile, but I feelz u. You have a small range to pull Max torque and it's up high. If you don't rev em out, they don't go.
You're right about the Z, to a point. I mean you can essentially drive it in second gear but if you know how to shift, you can use the first 4 speeds and have lots of fun on the streets.

When it comes to the STi. I'm an antagonist. I just thought the Evo was a lot better in terms of driving feel. Better feedback, all more confidence inspiring. I don't care for the wrx styling. I outgrew it about 5 years ago.

I respect the **** out of the wrx though. It's a great Z alternative. I wouldn't call it better or worse than a Z. It's more of a car that gives you alternative experience. I would say.if you own both cars, you have cornered sport driving on both sides of the spectrum.

UNKNOWN_370 04-08-2017 08:37 AM

Here's an article talking about how Subaru doesn't give a shyt about styling. Just ugly azz cars IMHO. But looks like that may change soon?

Mine handled as well (after sways/springs/struts/etc) but it was a different feel. It was more nose-heavy, but it turned in well and the front tires would let you fire it out of a corner. The Z felt more balanced, but you would have to be much more precise and come back on the throttle slower or you'd leave the road backwards. The Sti you could fling into a corner, point the front wheels where you wanted to go and pin the throttle. You can't beat the grip and corner exit speed of AWD.

Z370Z011 04-22-2017 07:36 AM

I drove one 2 days ago, considering selling the Z due to spacing issues. I wasn't very impressed, I know they aren't in the same class but in all honesty It felt pretty slow, The interior felt cheap, I think even hondas interior is probably better. I love the exterior but besides that I wasn't really enthused about it. I'm sure it's a great car but it just wasn't for me, which was a huge let down because i really wanted to like it. I guess it just felt like a huge downgrade from the Z.

1.WRX are notorious for ring land failure. Engine failure vs CSC....no comparison... Google ringland failure and WRX...
2. If your going to buy it the WRX is not the more respected version...people will ask ..why not WRX Sti?
3. Ugly relative to the 370z. The 370z is honestly one of the nicest looking sports cars around...WRX not so much.
4. You will spend more for an uglier less reliable car.
5. Relative to the 370z which looks like a sports car the WRX ....does not. Ask a female...she will think it is an econo box or something...seriously
6. Boy racer ...?
7. Price relative ...If you buy the WRX STI high 30's to 40 new....you could buy a barely used C6 corvette grand sport for that...
8. It will look like you spent mid 20's.... but you didnt...

Having said that I love the WRX Sti....even considered it before I purchased the Z and the car drives like a beast with the turbo kick...but the reasons above stopped me...

sunkist350z 04-22-2017 11:40 AM

Looks just as ugly as the previous year, and all 1,000 redesigns from 2002 then on.. hideous.

I wanted to like it too, for me it wasn't as much interior but the drivetrain....
its pushing out 268hp, but when you really get on it, it doesn't feel like it has the power, frankly it felt about as fast as my old '12 civic si in the top rpm range,
the transmission was meh at best, Si>370z> wrx transmission based on shifter / clutch feel.

Its a great car if you are coming from something like a base corolla or some other econobox, but if you are coming from anything remotely sporty, i.e. 370z, civic si, gti or any other competing class - it just falls flat on its face.

Recently I got to drive a stage 2 WRX, it definitely felt much faster but still, something was missing..

like someone else mentioned at ~30k OTD for a wrx, way better options in used and new markets.

btw; the wrx doesn't suffer ringlands but it does suffer from direct injection carbon build up, people on forums at 15k miles have really bad exhaust valve gunk, after cleaning liberating 10whp/15wtq..........
so long term its not a good platform either, from both the DIT engine and compelx AWD drivetrain with wearable clutch packs.
