can u even drive MT? like REALLY drive it? folks dat are complaining about torque on da STI is trying to pull in the wrong gear. remember, it's a 4 banger turbo. have to use upper RPM where most Z drivers would not downshift, u have to downshift on da STI. datz another reason why it's fun to drive too cause you really need to be good a driving MT to make this car go fast and da tranny is very forgiving if you're good at it.. like going into 1st gear at 18-20mph, no issue. :D u wouldnt even think of doing dat on a Z right? i mean i wouldn't, id just use 2nd gear. well guess wat, ure in da wrong gear den if u did dat on the STI.

i suppose if one was an avid S2K driver he/she'd know how to drive the STI properly. :iagree:

I know how to drive stick. It's been awhile, but I feelz u. You have a small range to pull Max torque and it's up high. If you don't rev em out, they don't go.
You're right about the Z, to a point. I mean you can essentially drive it in second gear but if you know how to shift, you can use the first 4 speeds and have lots of fun on the streets.

When it comes to the STi. I'm an antagonist. I just thought the Evo was a lot better in terms of driving feel. Better feedback, all more confidence inspiring. I don't care for the wrx styling. I outgrew it about 5 years ago.

I respect the **** out of the wrx though. It's a great Z alternative. I wouldn't call it better or worse than a Z. It's more of a car that gives you alternative experience. I would say.if you own both cars, you have cornered sport driving on both sides of the spectrum.

Here's an article talking about how Subaru doesn't give a shyt about styling. Just ugly azz cars IMHO. But looks like that may change soon?

Mine handled as well (after sways/springs/struts/etc) but it was a different feel. It was more nose-heavy, but it turned in well and the front tires would let you fire it out of a corner. The Z felt more balanced, but you would have to be much more precise and come back on the throttle slower or you'd leave the road backwards. The Sti you could fling into a corner, point the front wheels where you wanted to go and pin the throttle. You can't beat the grip and corner exit speed of AWD.

I drove one 2 days ago, considering selling the Z due to spacing issues. I wasn't very impressed, I know they aren't in the same class but in all honesty It felt pretty slow, The interior felt cheap, I think even hondas interior is probably better. I love the exterior but besides that I wasn't really enthused about it. I'm sure it's a great car but it just wasn't for me, which was a huge let down because i really wanted to like it. I guess it just felt like a huge downgrade from the Z.

1.WRX are notorious for ring land failure. Engine failure vs CSC....no comparison... Google ringland failure and WRX...
2. If your going to buy it the WRX is not the more respected version...people will ask ..why not WRX Sti?
3. Ugly relative to the 370z. The 370z is honestly one of the nicest looking sports cars around...WRX not so much.
4. You will spend more for an uglier less reliable car.
5. Relative to the 370z which looks like a sports car the WRX ....does not. Ask a female...she will think it is an econo box or something...seriously
6. Boy racer ...?
7. Price relative ...If you buy the WRX STI high 30's to 40 new....you could buy a barely used C6 corvette grand sport for that...
8. It will look like you spent mid 20's.... but you didnt...

Having said that I love the WRX Sti....even considered it before I purchased the Z and the car drives like a beast with the turbo kick...but the reasons above stopped me...

Looks just as ugly as the previous year, and all 1,000 redesigns from 2002 then on.. hideous.

I wanted to like it too, for me it wasn't as much interior but the drivetrain....
its pushing out 268hp, but when you really get on it, it doesn't feel like it has the power, frankly it felt about as fast as my old '12 civic si in the top rpm range,
the transmission was meh at best, Si>370z> wrx transmission based on shifter / clutch feel.

Its a great car if you are coming from something like a base corolla or some other econobox, but if you are coming from anything remotely sporty, i.e. 370z, civic si, gti or any other competing class - it just falls flat on its face.

Recently I got to drive a stage 2 WRX, it definitely felt much faster but still, something was missing..

like someone else mentioned at ~30k OTD for a wrx, way better options in used and new markets.

btw; the wrx doesn't suffer ringlands but it does suffer from direct injection carbon build up, people on forums at 15k miles have really bad exhaust valve gunk, after cleaning liberating 10whp/15wtq..........
so long term its not a good platform either, from both the DIT engine and compelx AWD drivetrain with wearable clutch packs.

It's not that it handles better. It's that all wheel drive allows you to be bolder than you would be in a Z. Plain and simple. You can take a tight apex at 50mph with all 4 wheels rolling, no problem N I'd be drifting through it using way more driving skill n fighting with the car to make it. Now my talent will get me through that Apex. Your computers will get you through that Apex.

Whose actually handling? Me or you.

It's a good car. But bring it back to Its front bias and see how it handles. Awd can fix anything
