So it looks likes the Type-R set a new front wheel drive lap record at the Nurburgring; besting the previous record by three seconds. Lap time of 7:43.80. Looks interesting

Was just going to post the same thing re Ring time, chopin_guy 88
When you look at the number of serious cars this beats handily, you can't dismiss it. Zeperfs duel Nismo 370Z vs Civic Type R: http://www.zeperfs.com/en/duel4693-6700.htm Not much data yet, though. |

My D D is a Civic Si. I really like this car. Many reasons.
I already told them at the dealer that if they get a white one (pretty much same color scheme as our Nismo) not to call me, especially with some sort of deal to offer. I like my Si, don't need two fast white and red cars in the garage, and yeah it's way hard to sneak around in. And I really don't need the temptation. Sure hope it comes as a coupe. A four door just seems wrong. And those very big fake grills on all four corners are just plain awful looking. But still, this thing would be a blast to drive once your reflexes catch up to that much power torque steer.

I don't see where there is an official run of a 370z on the Nordschleife.
For perspective, that is currently the 64th fastest lap for a production car. 0.8 seconds slower than a Porsche 911 GT3RS which costs US$175,000 before options!!! The car in 65th place? A Pagani Zonda! What do you think of the ricer Honda now??? ;-) |

Type R is really awesome...the problem is that the "me first" crowd are going to come running in with check books out and then simple supply and demand will occur...higher demand then supply = dealers increase MSRP above 40k to probably 45 to 50k. I cant really see myself spending 40 to 50k when there are so many awesome sports cars in that price range that you can buy used like the CLA45AMG, CTSV, Corvette, M3 for that amount...its stupid. Especially when their are so many awesome cars below that price range like the 370z, EVO, WRX sti, Ford Focus RS which are all just as good as the Civic. However, I would be all over it for 30k ...so I will wait and in a couple of years I will buy it used for around 28-30k ..which is honestly where it should be ..

I've owned an ap2 s2000, fb6 Si - so I am aware of how fun and good of cars honda makes, but I just don't see how the price tag is justified on a FWD civic, albeit with 300hp. The entrance point for this car NEW should have been right around what the base WRX sells for, i.e. 25 bare bones, 30k fully optioned, AT BEST. I don't think you have to wait that long to pick up a used one, after the initial surge, they will be sitting on dealer lots and will eventually be marked down just to move them, they underestimated the competitive nature of the segment. |

The new Civic Type R is an awesome performer given its price tag of mid 30k's. The cars you listed used are not as practical as the type r and will have comparable performance numbers to those cars you listed, heck look at the nurburing time! I would take this over the ford focus rs any day. Honda reliability and the exclusivity of the Type R name.

Personally I do not buy used sports cars for personal use. They have all been run hard and suffered "imprecise" driving along the way at best. Especially the manuals.
In the second or third year of the Type R I'll let the dealer know I have an interest, see what they do. The world of sports cars will be different then, who knows what will be out. And honestly, I don't want to get another new car until WAZE is offered. Tired of rigging up my phone to use it. Petty I guess but a realistic part of driving these days.

Sorry, don't get that. This is not your father's Civic. It's not an SI. It isn't a poser's car like those some have mentioned. And it IS worth every penny of its asking price. Just not to many people. Most of us only drive to get to work, pick up milk, or take the kids to school or skating. I agree that for these purposes, the Civic Type R is way too much car and is quite overpriced (though still more practical than most in its segment). Also too much money to show off at Cars&Coffee. But if you want something to drive hard on a track, that you can still daily (and leave most of the cars compared to it here in your mirror), it's a definite option. For anyone else, just buy a regular Civic and pick up an "R" badge on ebay for $5. Problem solved. Last edited by ZCanadian; 04-29-2017 at 04:44 PM. |

From Top Gear magazine: “The development car that achieved the lap time was technically representative of production specification,” says Honda. “A full floating roll cage was installed for safety reasons, but its presence did not provide any additional rigidity to the body frame. “The extra weight of the cage was compensated for by the temporary removal of the infotainment system and rear seats. The car was using road legal track-focused tyres.” https://www.topgear.com/car-news/hot...urgring-record Last edited by ZCanadian; 04-29-2017 at 04:45 PM. Reason: Added link to source |

not sure which article I read it in, but apparently the tires it ran on won't come stock from the factory, if that is, in fact, true it is a big deal, it would be tantamount to Nissan slapping slicks on the 370 and saying it runs 0-60 in 4 sec flat, then sell it with some summer tires that run 5 sec. I do hope the type r succeeds and crushes everything out there from the factory, this would be a nice kick in the *** to all the manufacturers, another capable competitor enters the arena. |
