Still a Ford... :stirthepot:

The v8 gets 412hp and I think it weighs about 3500lbs.

I, for one, am appalled that the word M**tang is allowed on this board, except in the context, "I just :owned: a M**tang."

My opinion and I'm entitled

*sigh*

That is the most simplistic way of viewing motor construction, ever.

You know how much the 7.0L LS7 weighs over the 6.0L LS2? 10 lbs.

10 measly lbs, for over 100 more HP.

+1. Domestic hate tends to cloud out rational thought at these places. :icon18:

A 2011 GT with the track pack and a 4.10 gear swap is going to walk all over a lot of cars.

MORE DISPLACEMENT MEANS 100LBS MORE PER LITER! At LEAST! The motor is OBVIOUSLY bigger!

Hasn't anyone ever heard of stroking/boring a motor out? Using aluminum heads/block instead of iron?

The new Mustang is going to be a SIGNIFICANT player against the 370Z, mark my words. And I'm a Chevy fanboy.

Well it took until 08 or 09 to get an overhead cam as a standard in the mustang. guess they're trying to catch up a little faster finally. In all honesty it shouldn't be Z vs. Mustang GT while the V6 stang is in the 4-banger world. Don't like mustangs other than the 64-69 or the early 90s fox bodies, but it's about time Ford.

Where do you get this 100lbs/liter equation?

No doubt it will be faster than a Z in a straight line, but it's still a front-heavy (in fact heavier) design with a live rear axle and could be pwnd on a "driver's track" with no significantly long straights.

Should be king of the local dragstrip, though.

vipor 12-18-2009 08:47 AM

did he mean 100hp?

vipor 12-18-2009 08:49 AM

Swapping a KA24DE + Trans (5sp) to an LS1 + Trans (6sp) actually saved 100lbs if I remember correctly.

Just look at how much weight is lost going from a puny rotary to an LS1 lol.

And no, I meant 100lbs/liter - I was poking fun at the fact that Red370 assumes that more cubes = more weight by default, as if motor weight grows in proportion to displacement.

I wouldnt be surprised if the VQ37 weighs more than an LS1.

I love mustangs...not the drivers since they tend to think they are high and mighty (I've been on rehab since I used to be one of them). With that said Mustangs are still best bang for the $. They draw massive interest since they are cheap and mods are cheap as well. An average 370z exhaust is $1000, invest that in a GT and you'll have a real monster on your hands. With that said, Mustangs cannot, I repeat CANNOT negotiate turns. Chances are a bolt on Mustang will take a Z if they were to run on the highway on the way to the track, but at the track it's a different story. Still, Mustangs have a special lure to youngins who spend all their part time job money on mods.
