engine hasnt evolved hardly if any since then, no fail. There have been variations with aluminum blocks, but the weight savings were negligible.

Both are 5.7L Chevy Small Blocks, with a mere 5 years separating them.

The new 5.0 is an almost completely new design, using the old specs is pretty retarded. The engine is expected to drop weight as it will be an aluminum block.

This thread went without a post for weeks and it has since exploded into a flame fest.
I do have to thank forum members like Bobo and m4a1 for their factual, and useful contributions to this thread.

Well its about time they did something about that engine, I mean c'mon a 4.0 V6 making 122hp 30tq less than the 3.7 V6 Z? Nice that they decided to go with a 3.7 making 300hp....that and since it's only about 100lbs more than the Z all its missing is a IRS and the Z has a new friend to play with

I'm sure it will sound pretty good with aftermarket exhaust. The V8 is the only one with a tuned exhaust note. The V6 is just hushed up because Ford knows 9 out of 10 enthusiast Mustang buyers go for the V8.
That said, the 3.8L V6's found in the 94-04 Mustangs sound like crap. A well-built and reliable engine it was, but holy crap it sounded terrible. I made the mistake of buying exhaust for my '02 V6 (I was 16) and it sounded like a busted up truck. LOL.
