In the end, you know why you want a car. Some want to race a car. Track use (Z06), some simply want a different car (Z06), some want exclusivity (370Z), some like both but prefer reliability and maintenance costs (370z). Some want a daily driver (370z).

Since you modded a Nismo, 370z, I think you like fast cars, the bug has hit you so go for the Z.

At 68, I don't race or track, needed a car for daily driving and for its looks. I opted for a red 2014 370z (8250 miles) over a msimilar silver 370z (17000 miles) and a 2006 corvette coupe wth 56k miles, all at the same price.

Corvettes are far too many compared to the 370z.

Drew303... My main question for you is this. Why are you asking us to "talk you out of a Z06" anyway?

That right there tells me you have some kind of reservations about getting one, whether it be that it's a Chevy, it's American, it's reliability, something.

We know money isn't an issue, so there must be something about it that you don't like or are concerned about which is making you second-guess yourself from purchasing one.

Mainly because I have put sooooo much money into the Z. I would feel weird putting all that money into it just to sell it. If I didn't have the Z I would have a Z06 in my garage right now

However, I'm hearing a bunch of excuses from Z owners along the lines of "ours looks better, ours is cheaper, blah blah blah...." the same Z owners who then turn around and say "what about a GT-R if you want to spend that kind of money?" Talk about a disengaged, unexciting-looking car... and the 'Vette is still cheaper. By a lot. Like you could have a Z06 AND a 370Z for the cost of one of those things these days.:icon14:

I don't like brand loyalists who are unwilling to admit that their particular car isn't the best thing since sliced bread in every category. It reeks of butthurt.

As a side note the Z has zero torque IMO. I came from Mustangs though so my opinion is skewed. I bought the Z for its looks and handling characteristics more than anything. And for the fact that the nismo (at the time) didn't come in AT so I wouldn't have to worry about people who can't drive owning one.:stirthepot:

I hear you and lol on zero torque. On the muscle side I'm a camaro man so mustang torque is a joke to me. The Z is actually adequately torquey "For Its Intended Purpose". I find it to have a good balance of power & handling.

I was pretty much thinking that as well.

Just curious, have you considered a Dodge Viper?

Granted, it's about $8k more, but to me, it's a heck of a lot better looking car all the way around, and definitely loads better looking inside. Also, even though the Vette sounds excellent, it's hard to beat the sound of a thumping, NA V10. And let's not forget, the Viper is a lot more rare out in the wild than a Vette or even a Z for that matter.

Never been a Vette fan, but that looks freaking hot. The looks have grown on me. Would never own one, and still can't wrap my arms around anyone comparing the Z to it:shakes head:. But if I can find a single, old white man driving one I'd date him for a while just to beat it up. The Vette, not him...ewwww!

The mirrors are ugly but I'm sure I could find some aftermarket carbon replacements.:yum:

I'm no GM fan but IMO they did a good job (finally).

Keep the Z, put your extra $ into a Roth IRA.

Can't tell if serious

Maybe I missed this in the original post - but what would you do with the Z? Sell it? If that is the case and you're going to lease a Z06; what would you do after the lease?

The other question is - do you enjoy driving your Z? I know it's one thing to see other cars and WANT them, it's hard not to compare the new ride to the previous and something tells me that there will be something about a turbo'd Z that will be greater than a stock Z06 (just my op though). I don't mean overall but there will be some factors that the turbo'd Z > Z06. (Wanted to clarify to not sound like a fan boy!)

For me, while I enjoy my Z a lot - I would probably take my PIF Stage 2 GTI over it and save the money on gas and tires as well as the car payment in itself (my car had great low end torque, fun factor that matched my Z and a better interior...but that ext on the Z and the the RWD - and the fun factor as well got me LOL)

F&I guys make tons at dealerships. It's the techs that get screwed and have to move on to other careers to make money.

How do you know if he hasn't already maxed out the annual contribution? And for someone that can afford a Z06, perhaps his annual income has exceeded the limit for any ROTH contribution at all....

Plenty of us finance our cars and pay them off with no problems, just because we didn't fork over $30K-$$40K cash don't mean we couldn't afford it. Millionaires lease and finance just a we do too. OP do what you like, your life, your money, EMBRACE THE MOMENT!!!

Not totally agreeing with you there. To millionaires, lease and finance are investment, business and tax decisions. They have tax/financial advisors around them to put the strategies together. For normal people to take on a loan for a 90k car usually means cutting back on your 401K and IRA contributions and/or paying off the mortgage later and/or taking money out from the emergency account. I worked in the financial planning business for a while and I know that being able to make the car payment doesn’t always mean you can afford it.

If you plan to track it don't buy the Z06, I know three guys that have hired lawyers because they will not fix the cooling problems on the Z06. It's great as a street car but not for the track. I just bought a C7 Z51 so don't take this as me hating on corvettes.
