Normally when an iconic vehicle comes back - there is a lot of fanfare and a lot of 'can't wait to see how it performs'; but it seems like the Supra is receiving the opposite. We as a group seem to go back and forth as to whether or not a new Nismo is worth the price and those go for around $45k - add another $15-18k and it seems like we are in the new Supra range with similar HP numbers as the Z. I don't know if that price difference will make it that much better than the Nissan performance numbers.

While I am curious about the Supra - I wonder how much the 'upcharge' will be once it starts to hit dealers. Add in the fact that it seems to be nothing more than a Toyota shell with a BMW chassis and engine - I don't know if I would be hyped to pay that much just to say I have a Supra. Just my .02.

The one thing that makes us go back and forth on the Z and pricing is that once you hit a certain mark - lets say the $45-50k range - it opens up a lot of options that are superior to the Z. When considering the Supra (if the $60k is what we can expect) - your options are even greater. Add in no manual option and the fact that we will be facing an upcharge on it and the cost of tuning - I think I would pass on it to see if it's still around after 4years. Just my .02. *shrugs*

I will look for the car here in as it arrives and hope for a test. I have connections in the business here in many marques. I will hope to see how it compares to my M2. You are correct on many levels about how this is potentially coming along.

I do feel when it hits the market and the street we will forget the long wait and grow very very curious and quickly and be happy overall. We do not need another SUV/box to read about or a truck lol  :driving:

If you get the opportunity to test drive it - I can’t wait to hear how it does compare to the Z as well as your impression of it compared to the Z.

I feel most of us will experience the ‘you can look but you can’t touch unless you are willing to buy it’. My experience at the local VW dealership when I wanted to check out a 2018 Golf R - was ‘well, we can’t let you test drive it unless we can agree on the numbers and financing’. Needless to say - that was a quick visit haha (the sales guy was willing to let me drive a GTI though ;) )

Another dealership when I was curious as to the OTD price of the 2018 Civic Type-R was $12.5k above MSRP bc....’market adjustment was determined by them’. When I told them another dealer in Houston offered me OTD at a little over $40k - they came down on their price.....by then I was just soured on the whole experience and told them I would pass. Side note - I am curious and thinking about trading in my Z for a Civic Type-R - 4 seats and still maintaining a fun factor seems appealing to me.

I agree with the last few posts and DLSTR. Yes you must put us on if you gst dibs on a Supra.

On another note... The civic upcharge is laughable. I'd get a VW or Focus RS at that money. Honda done lost their mind. Especially since they deviated from the v-Tec.

I remember you couldn't test drive the FRS... You had to buy it. It took me a year and a used model to get a test drive. When I finally drove the FRS. It was hysterical to me that anyone would have been upcharge with that thing. The only advantage that car has is its not front heavy, so u can dive in a farmer at a higher rate of speed than a Z. But once out of the corner. Revving up to speed is a bytch. It CORNERING zaps the life out the engine if you're trying to compete. Now I'm not expecting that from the Supra. But a this gen Nismo and supra compare will be needed. I don't think the difference will be much except I believe the Supra won't be so front heavy. But I think responsiveness will be better in the Z.

I posted a new thread on Z vs M2 vs Type R. You may want to take a look at it. I feel your thought definitely has merit, if you need or want 4 seats.

Yeah, not a bad design from what I can see. But if the power spec assumptions being mentioned are anywhere close to being true, I'm just not feeling that mid 50s + price tag... at all. :shakes head:

There is a picture of the actual new Supra without any camo sitting in a car trailer with most of the front end uncovered. I found it on the Supra MKV site but its out there.

It's kinda funky lookin. Gotta see it in person. I still don't know if I'd buy. 335hp at $60k seems od. U can get a mid engined cayman for the same money with an optional manual.

Negative..... A fluffy GT86 with an oil burning gas engine.

CRiZO 12-13-2018 08:52 PM

Do we know what engine it is?
