That's where I'm coming from with regard to the 370Z being a bit of a porker at 800 lbs more! True, mine also cost more like the Supra's expected list, not the Z's.

IF the Supra comes in at the same weight but significantly more torque (especially from 2,500RPM), OR at significantly lower weight with similar torque but more available across the rev band, then I think it would be the better car. Maybe not "10 years" better. If it lands with both, then it might be worth the price tag suggested in that article.

Time will tell.

a miata isn't a sports car........:bowrofl:

torque will be there it's turbocharged. it actually better be there lol. also we all know it'll be there, the engine is already in production cars and this will probably be slightly bumped up from those.

so yes, more TQ and same weight makes it worthy of being a sports car however i reserve all rights to call it trash if it looks like shit.

the BRZ was trash. they have that looming above their heads.

You definitely get the right to call it what it is, whatever that may be!

The 86 platform has its supporters, and it isn't bad. But it's not great either. It was another "sports car that has to be everything to everyone" that wound up not being a huge success. Surprise!

So, I agree with you - this one really has to hit the bullseye. From that article, it sounds like this is possible. But we'll see. I hated the reference to a possible low-power version coming out later. There's that "all things to all people" again. Maybe they'll put out a crossover edition, too. :stirthepot:

Some Miata... ;-)

ughhhhh a 4C? thats worse than a miata.....looks wise lol just so square.

but yes the supra will need to check every box and in my opinion it comes down to looks. the power will be there we know what engine is it. the handling needs to also be there which seems that it was there.

i will say, the rear has a bit too much lexus in it.

I will have to wait and see it in person before I make judgment.

Nixin 09-24-2018 05:34 PM

Not a bad looking 'concept' IMHO. I will call it that as the renderings do not inspire me to believe that this is the way the final production vehicle will look. There is many Z inspired shapes, etc. I concur withGod-Speed, I will have to wait to see it in person.

I like it, just wish or hope they make a manual.

sunkist350z 09-25-2018 01:25 PM

manual is useless anymore except for theft deterrent lol

also, i see at the bottom they mention the 4 banger modek with 240hp.......why?

thats a waste of money if you buy it, a waste of toyotas money to make it, and a waste of my time to have to ponder the fact that oh ok for the FRS/BRZ crowd who want to step their game up......but still under 250hp. :shakes head:

You can get some decent looks at it in this video

Looks like the Supra is getting the manual after all.

FFS, it's an sports car geared towards enthusiasts. Put a fuckin MT in it!!

Ridiculous that Toyota needs "market feedback" for that decision ... :shakes head: :gtfo2:

So, read that top gear article, good read btw.

They benchmarked the cayman. Sound familiar.?

Around 300-350 bhp, sound familiar?

Rear wheel drive with front midship platform, sound familiar?

Not meant to be a hard core track car, but aftermarket will fill in the blanks, sound familiar?

Presto is spot on, it’s the new Toyota 370z with updated materials/tech for 2018.

Want to know mod potential of the motor, go check out bmw 3 series forum and start researching burger tuning jb1 and jb4. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing btw, but its no 2jz.

This car to sell needs to be 370z priced, if it’s more, then your competing against Cameros, stangs, vettes, m2, tt rs etc and it’s not there performance wise. It very well could wind up like the z, a tweener car power to $$ wise but it’s saving grace vs the z is it’s factory fi.

The advantage this car has is TURBO. It will be cheap to get an extra 200hp. Where our Z takes $13k to get that kinda power.

On another note... It looks like the manual will be RHD only .. Go figure. But at the same time. It will make die hard purists go thru he'll to bring a manual Supra to the states from Japan.
Captialism at its best. Lol.
