Power and size are great. now what about the weight and handling? If they cheap out on the suspension - because: Toyota - then forget the entire project in my view. The issue is whether or not they have a clear vision and stick to it. If marketing wants it to be all things to all people, then it won't appeal to the true enthusiast anymore. 18-way seats with a scrotum-warmer, electronic nannies out the wazoo, and a big screen surround sound entertainment system are for minivans and urban warfare vehicles. Anything more than a cupholder and I'm out! |

From this video the new supra looks like it handles with sound to match.

lets cut through the non-sense..........
toyota made a 370Z........10 years too late. 335hp V6 - 3300/3500lbs - RWD. simple as that. doesnt seem very special.

unless it actually has the FT-1 concepts body then it'll be a failure.
seriously, based on all specs given to this point, it legit is a toyota 370z. thats it. obviously things will be a step up on the electronics possibly and the presence of the turbo. if it somehow is hiding an amazing body under the disguise then i'll give some credence. but the engine and other specs dont blow me away is all. i've had all that for 8 years now with my Z

Isn’t Toyota worried tuners are going to ruin it with 1,000bhp conversions? Far from it – it’s actually encouraging it. Tada is planning to release specs of the car early to various tuners so they can prepare their packages for the car. There’s also pre-drilled holes in the front for hanging high downforce front splitters from, and a reinforced boot lid to handle big wings on the back. “The question I’m most frequently asked is whether you’ll be able to fit the 2JZ engine to it,” Tada tells us. “I tell them, absolutely, please go ahead!” But Toyota has no plans to make any big moves into the aftermarket modification area for the Supra itself. “We could go into it, but then you lose these grass roots parts companies and that could kill the space entirely – it needs to be creative to breathe.” But the price they are quoting is 50,000 pounds estimate. That's US$65,750 today! Last edited by ZCanadian; 09-19-2018 at 05:11 PM. |

A lot will depend on weight. And torque. Both are not 370Z strong points, and I expect that with turbo tuning possibilities the torque will be ample and come on early in the rev band with the new Toyota.

That's where I'm coming from with regard to the 370Z being a bit of a porker at 800 lbs more! True, mine also cost more like the Supra's expected list, not the Z's. IF the Supra comes in at the same weight but significantly more torque (especially from 2,500RPM), OR at significantly lower weight with similar torque but more available across the rev band, then I think it would be the better car. Maybe not "10 years" better. If it lands with both, then it might be worth the price tag suggested in that article. Time will tell. |
