OK, go ahead, but I warned you.... Well, if they manage to get 335HP out of a tuned SC or turbo 4 on this one, and the car weighs 500 lbs less than the 370Z, then they may still have something to talk about. I can dream, can't I??? |

For comparison sake, the M2 has 365HP and 343LbFt and is 3450Lbs and from what I hear is the best M car that is offered currently. If Toyota/BMW can reduce that weight to below 3000Lbs (the 86 is 2754Lbs) that would be fantastic even with "lowly" turbo 335HP. As far as a hybrid AWD option, the Prius is 3000Lbs even with those heavy batteries. Not a true sports car, but neither is the GTR. |

Yes, that's exactly what it means. The Z is based on an old chassis and is powered by an engine that doesn't utilize any of the newest technologies available today. It is certainly dated, by car standards but it is also remains pretty competitive and offers a great driving experience.

So this shyt is getting the normal bimmer engines. Hopefully this car will be 3,000lbs n then it might be something special? Otherwise, it will be a lower slung 3 series. Whomp whomp whomp whommmp!

Unless they're keeping some stuff a serious secret, I don't see much of anything enticing here. I've never had high hopes for this car, and this is why. The Japanese carmakers are lacking imagination and courage to do something truly exceptional these days.

This is just gonna be the faster 86 everybody wanted with a lil bit more room with yet another engine from a different company. You can utilize all of the newest technologies available today but realistically speaking the only thing the new Supra sounds like it will have over the Z34 is adjustable dampening and ecu. Not saying its a bad thing but it took Toyota what 4+ years to come up with 335-400hp BMW that looks like a Z34/86?

Ha.
I guess I don't blame Toyota for using the BMW engines. Minimal R&D costs since they have no competitive turbo engines in their stable and BMW has been doing it for years. But given the wonderfully designed Toyota engines in their recent sport attempts with the LFA and the ISF, RCF, and GSF just disappointing to hear they'll potentially tarnish the Supra legacy by outsourcing the engine. The BMW turbo 6s respond great to tunes, but damn don't call it a supra. |
