Imported 350z from Japan?

Most cars there would be close to par with the prices here after shipping but I've found a 350z for around $4K with 60k miles. That would be around $10k if I tried to buy that from anywhere in the us. What are you thoughts on importing, do you know the average cost to deliver it to the coast?

Agreed.

Japan Auto Direct :Importing to USA

From the above:

"Vehicles eligible for import into the USA:

1) Any vehicle that is at least twenty-five (25) years old (to the month/year of manufacture) is eligible to be imported into the USA, fully exempt of the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration (Department of Transport) and Environmental Protection Agency (vehicle emissions) standards or import restrictions.

2) Any vehicle that was originally manufactured to meet the NHTSA (DOT) & EPA standards, such as USDM cars like a Chevrolet Corvette or European exotic from USA, can be repatriated back to America without import restriction.

3) Any vehicle that is a non-US spec vehicle (Not DOT & EPA compliant), such as JDM cars like a Nissan Skyline, you must hire a DOT-registered importer and have them conform the vehicle to U.S. standards upon importation. * Please check the "list of non-conforming vehicles" (link below) for the JDM vehicle you want to import and also the "list of registered importers" (link below) who might be able to conform that specific vehicle to US Spec for you."

"Your" government regulations working on "your" behalf.

Glad the owner was allowed to get out of the driver's seat before justice was done. If he becomes a repeat offender, the third time he may not be given that opportunity.

OP, 350Zs are cheap as it is. Besides, like what Darwins' Child pointed out, a JDM vehicle must be at least 25 years old to be imported into the US.

Joe1561 06-12-2016 03:51 PM

I didn't know, but yeah they aren't much but just think, you could get them for 6k in Japan

Yeah, $6K plus shipping. Oh, and the 25 years or older law kinda plays a big role.

Joe1561 06-12-2016 04:02 PM

(I'm thinking of living there pretty soon after college) since I can't bring my car that would be a great price

If you are going to live in Japan, you'd have more options than just a Z33. I wouldn't even think of shipping one then.

Joe1561 06-12-2016 04:07 PM

Yeah? I didn't plan o shipping. 350z/370z are my dream cars

I would not import a car unless it was not available in the U.S. or a limited
produced item.
I have passed up on a few deals in this category. But,times change and the value of
cars change. Makes you kick yourself at times.
Showing my age(I'm prolly in the upper level for Z owners),Road&Track ran a ad
every month back in the 60's-early 70's. Said:
American in Italy has(Ferraris)for sale. I almost bought one. Even contacted the seller about shipping(via boat).Like 3k for a Ferrari 250GT 60'S model SHIPPED.
These babies go for around(restored) 700k now.
We all (I think)have passed on deals. Sold my 62' Jag E-TYPE roadster because
could not afford a new clutch it needed(had to pull the engine to change).
Would be worth about 100k today . And I could not spring for $1,500 60's bucks
at the time.Bought my Lotus which I still have.

Pass
Used 350's are all over the place at firesale prices.Get to see/drive it too.

enkei2k 06-12-2016 08:41 PM

importing a car (especially a 350Z) is kinda pointless...

keep in mind that the car will be RHD. You'll be on the other side of the road vs the rest of the drivers, drive thrus will be a pain, if you're getting a manual transmission, that's another thing to use your left hand vs right, etc...etc...

Either young or low income, we all have been one or both of those at one time. Though funny and maybe questionable, give him some slack.:ugh2:

OptionZero 06-12-2016 11:17 PM

the most important lesson he can learn is post less, read more, don't spend money until after you've read alot

Joe1561 06-12-2016 11:55 PM

OptionZero **** you okay, I'm sorry you need to be rude and troll people. Thanks for the advice that you've given, but as stated, **** you and **** off

Wow. Tactical nuke after only six posts.

BGTV8 06-13-2016 04:59 AM

The other thing is that Japanese cars are RHD not LHD ... so get used to sitting on the wrong side of the car.

Wow! really?? Listen if you can't learn to ignore comments then you need not make threads that are pretty much trolling material and stop being so sensitive.

If you want to talk to people like that do it outside this forum.

We don't condone this type of behavior among members as we're all pretty much adults here so I would expect this from everyone including yourself to be respectful.

I would encourage you to rethink before attacking another member here and familiarize yourself with the forum rules.

I don't see why you needed to respond this way if your opening yourself to be criticized on a public forum that has been here since 08 09 for me.

I've pretty much seen it all, and so have many of our members so the patience maybe a little thin, but help can be had if you act like an adult.

Have a nice day and Please! Try to use the search function :ugh2:
