My guess is that insurance companies won't pay a client's own shop to repair the car. If they 'total' the car, the car is the property of the insurance company. If he collects damages, he could potentially repair it for much less than what the quoted damage is. |

I was think the same as what spearfish25 was think, that this guy salvaged this car to claim insurance, then he'll buy it back and restore at pennies on the dollar. However, he's pretty dumb to let the motor run to suck in all the water.

Hmm, I'm not too familiar with engines so what are the process of repairing an engine that has sucked up that much water? I'm sure it's a lot more than just taking it apart, relubing, and reassemble. Also, does he necessarily have the resource to repair such a car? Not necessarily referring to money but finding the right people and parts.
