Manual transmission grinding (not a Z)

I have a 97 Ford Ranger w/ 5 speed w/ 145K on the odo.

I was driving it today, and it seems my 4th => 3rd synchro is no longer working, I can get it into gear by either gently pressing it in place after a second, or, I can ram it home with a minimal grind (I'm sure neither is appropriate!)

I imagine it'd be a matter of pulling the tranny (since it could also be the clutch from what I've read)....which is something I don't have the means/space/time to do.

What should I expect it to cost?

My 1972 VW Bug had a similar issue and it was a shift rod bushing. Very small, cheap piece of rubber that had to be replaced. It's a similar fix for your truck, expect a very small repair bill.

Replacing that piece also cleared up a ton of "slop" in my shifting.
