Gotta warn ya!
I found a vehicle that was even more of a pain in the *** to keep on the road than my 370Z (although it never actually stranded me like my 370Z, which is worth noting...I was never late to work because of it.)
I was told my 2010 Grand Heep Cherokee with HEMI/QD II would be a never-ending failboat. I was told correct! So I wanted to just give ANYONE a heads up considering one...you've been warned! I did not heed it, lol, and I paid. I owned it for a whopping 1 year and 3 months before I dumped it. During that time... -N23 disabled my 4WD low -Transmission leaked and was taken out, seal replaced, and still leaked. -Sunroof guide broke -Both front control arm bushings rotted out and had to be replaced -Random body parts fell or flopped loose when I took it through touchless carwash -Satellite radio randomly lost signal -Transmission had very annoying tq converter shudder -Steering always felt like the diff was locking up on tight corners like in a parking lot -Water pump went bad (again...it was changed 8K miles before I bought it...) -Annoying whining (very loud, as in, wake the neighbors) when I cranked it on cold days, even after replacing the belt. -Randomly stalled once, and would run rough at idle sometimes. New plugs, PCV, air filter, etc. Nothing helped. -Random SES light was the last straw, and I traded it in rather than chase that down and take the transmission out AGAIN! Anyway, I traded it for a pre-owned 2015 Mazda CX-5 2.5L AWD. Why? Because I live in the mountains and it snows here, and the Mazda was cheap, had great reliability reviews, and gets 30mpg on the highway, 24 around town, and gives me the utility that I have come to love in an SUV. Building my first house in the next year or two, Debt/Income ratio is first and foremost in my mind, and AWD and ground-clearance of an SUV are mandatory. |
Noted. Thanks for the heads up!

If you look up Dodge in the dictionary, it means to avoid. Remember that lol

I like to rent Jeeps (Wranglers) when I visit Moab or a similiar off-road destination. Everytime I entertain the the idea of buying a Jeep, I quickly regain my sanity and reject it almost immediately. Now renting one is a whole other story....it just doesn't get much better when you are risking another person's Jeep, freeing you from any inhibitions that may be holding you back from having off-road fun because you are afraid of damaging your own vehicle.
In that regard, I love Jeeps! BTW, the guy that I rent Jeeps from has recommended to never buy a Jeep  |
Well f#ck I really wanted one of these things for the the wife's new DD but I will take your advice good sir.... Have you heard anything about it being fixed in later models or are they all pretty much junk?

Well, screw that. I'm listening to what others already know, and just made a safe bet and went with Mazda. Basically, I'm buying known quality and expecting it to be so, instead of buying known "problems" and expecting them NOT to be so...I bet it works better for me! http://www.consumerreports.org/conte...ards_04-15.png http://s1.ibtimes.com/sites/www.ibti...?itok=aCQy8QXq |
Sounds like a standard Jeep experience. My buddy's wife got stranded after her 2010 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 threw a rod with ~2000 miles on the odometer :wtf2:

Hyundai and Kia ranked above Nissan and Infiniti :ugh2:

Have a '13 Grand Cherokee with 39,000 miles. Zero problems. Had '04 Grand Cherokee with 130,000 with zero problems. Had '98 Grand Cherokee with 145,000 miles. Had to replace starter. Have '08 Dodge Power Wagon with 59,000 miles. Zero problems. Had '99 Dodge 1500 4x4 with 125,000 miles. Had to replace a u-joint in the front axle at 100,000 miles. I've had less problems with the Mopars then I've had with the gm's and fords that I've owned over the years.

And 370Z CSC's. :ugh: |
Pretty impressed with the insane technology that went into my engine. I thought the VQ37 was high-tech!

My Toyota 4 runners have been bullet proof

buy foreign!!!!! :rock::rock:

I have a '02 dakota that has been pretty bullet proof for 140K miles. It is starting to exhibit standard wear and tear issues though. Xfer case has started a low whine and the power steering pump needs to be replaced. Gonna keep it and fix it.

Loud whining and different steering feel after hitting the corners (aeration issues of the power steering fluid is my guess, yes, it was checked multiple times. Nissan North America said "Normal, deal with it). Horrible vibration from warped rotors caused by not gently torquing the lug nuts (never had a car warp rotors in the shop before multiple times. Even tore up some Z1 slotted rotors). Dealership performed all work. THere was a HUGE thread I started a few years ago about it. NAV screen would randomly go black instead of "coming back" after the reverse-camera image went away. Transmission was hell to shift in rainy weather. Yes, rain made it hard to shift. I don't know why. Yes, I was running Redline MT-85. It would also grind for a shift or two in cold weather. Never had a manual do that before when it wasn't my fault, but this one did. Clutch to the fire-wall, too. Not a user error. I would almost bend the shifter trying to go into first on rainy days. It was a pain the arse. My CSC never failed. My Berk CBE fit for crap, was always hanging down because the hangers would slide out of the rubber hanger things. Berk customer service was non-existent. Not Nissan's fault, just screw Berk. Don't buy their junk. I called multiple times about the issue, and even paid them via credit card (or at least gave them the #) for a new set of rubber hanger grommets, and they told me they would fab me a hanger that would work with their exhaust. I never got the grommets, or the hanger. I didn't check to see if I was charged the $20'ish, either, so they may have not charged me, but their product was always a pain. Sounded good though and I felt more seat of the pants from it. So yeah, I can see why Nissan ranked low, considering the 370Z is named one of their more reliable models. All that said, dammit, the Jeep was so much worse! |

If you just must drink the Koolaid, don't own it past the end of the warranty. OTOH, a couple of friends own KIAs.....bulletproof. 104 |

Kia...I have literally NEVER heard of one dying. Of any cause, for any reason. Supreme Leader would be proud! |
Cars fail and break or they last forever. My GTi needed a motor due to an ignition misfire/broken igniter off the spark plug - oh and that was NGK. So much for faultlless Japanese parts eh? The car itself never had an issue but that problem with the plug ate cyl 4 and needed new motor.
My M235i so far is bullet proof and it gets driven hard here in Germany. Rain, shine snow sun and fast and furious on the Autobahn, lots of boost and lots braking. Small roads in the Alps to city traffic and pain. My 370Z was treated the same and it was perfect. Its a roll of the dice on cars. No brand is perfect and all you can do is drive and fix as needed. Its cars and car life. |

Just an update. I am getting around 23-25mpg in daily use. I live only 3-4 miles from work, and it's a hilly drive. VERY pleased for an AWD SUV doing that! It's not the fastest, but I've yet to be in a bad situation with it. 0-60 in 7.8 seconds isn't shabby really for its intended purpose. A full second faster than the CR-V, Forester 2.5i, or RAV 4. So far, all is well.
By this time, I had already had to replace the front LCA's on my Jeep, and was worrying about the N23 recall, which did indeed affect me. |
300 mile road trip through the hills of NWA to Tulsa,OK, drove around Tulsa, came back. Averaged 28mpg. Paid $31 to fill it back up with ethanol-free 87 octane (Could have gotten away with $26ish or so using the 10% stuff).
