I wanted a cheap fun car with good mpg, use regular gas, manual transmission, RWD, and a usable back seat. I will never track it (the Z is for that)

My new "beater"
I wanted a cheap fun car with good mpg, use regular gas, manual transmission, RWD, and a usable back seat. I will never track it (the Z is for that) but I still want it to be fast enough to be fun in the twisties. I got this new V6 Mustang for $21,700 (w/051A package, $26,620 MSRP) which IMO is a lot of car for the money. I really love the improvements in the S550 over the S197.

That seems like a pretty good price. Might look at one for the wife when her lease is up this year I am interested in what you consider usable

I would love to have bought a FR-S instead but it was just too small to be my "family" car.
My 6 year old boy fits great in the back and I drive him to school every day. It is pretty funny to me that the Mustang gets way more complements than the Z from non-car people. Car people, on the other hand, just ask why I didn't get the 5.0. |

What kills me is the FR-S is a no haggle price at almost 26k.

Might I add, I saw the mustang in silver on wednesday and the paint quality is visually outstanding.

I actually had considered trading my DD in on an Ecoboost Mustang when they start offering 0% financing.
Are the back seats actually usable though? Is the trunk decent size? |

I recently drove a new Mustang, and i have to say, Ford did an excellent job with it. It definitely feels more nimble and rigid than any before it.
Nice pick up!

Just a few mods so far. I put on Steeda progressive springs for a 1" drop. I also installed a hitch to tow my motorcycles/atvs/mowers. On the inside a Roush shifter, and a Blend Mount for my Escort 9500ix.

That's gotta be the highest $/HP ratio of ANY car for sale. It's almost hilarious. It's easily the cheapest 300 hp around. Sadly, it doesn't say much for the Z being $29k for 30 more hp, but you're getting a lot more than just 30 hp going to a Z car, IMHO, but I'm speaking in the minority for most sports car guys out there (but preaching to the choir on this forum, methinks.)

When I said I would never track it I meant I would never track unless I thought it was going to rain all weekend It ended up only raining one day but I drove it both. It sucked in the dry with its really soft suspension and 500tw tires but in the rain it did pretty well.

Well the beater got a major upgrade. BOOST! I had a Procharger installed and it went from 266whp/267wtq to 415whp/351wtq. This is on a Mustang dyno where a stock 5.0 puts out about 380whp. Since most of the drivetrain on the v6 is the same as the v8 and because of the low boost level, it should be totally reliable as is.
