2016 Miata - Interested?
What does everyone think about the new 2016 Mazda Miata? Anyone thinking of switching?

Very interested. The car actually lost weight unlike others who were saying they would!
|
Looks cute but thinking of switching.......NEVER!
|
Very interested the latest gen looks great. No space in the stable though :(
|
Feck no. It looks ok, except for the back, single exhaust. Engine is anemic, 180/160tq. The current engine blows too. 162/151 manual, auto is 150/140. At 2600 pounds...no thanks. For over $33K with a hardtop and the tech. Out of your freaking minds!! Its WORSE than a FRS/BRZ..and thats a challenge.

Cute little toy:tup:

Gayish!!

For daily driving it may not be all that appealing. However, this will be an awesome track toy. Monticello Motor Club maintains a fleet of miatas for their members. That says a lot...affordable, reliable, great gearbox, cheap to fix, and fun on the track. Find another convertible that does all that.

Need to drive it but absolutely on the radar.
Anyone here ever owned one before? :p Our Z-R replaced a 150K '92 NA6 car that I had modified (and unmodified) for the 12+ years I owned it. You either get them or don't: its not for everyone but the power plant down may be 1.7L and 100+ HP over the current Z but at 1000 lbs lighter that is a recipe for fun on the street. Most folks are fine with a quick car: you don't need a fast car to have fun on public roads. Its about balance, and my NA6 was more fun then the Z overall. The Z has things the old girl never had and gets kudos for those properties but for me (and hundreds of thousands of other folks out there in the last 23+ years) a Miata just works. The touch of italian in the new design while being true to the overall miata (er, lotus-ish) design is a good look. The NC was never a great looker. Will be interesting if they let the mazda speed folks either deliver a 200 HP screamer of an engine or a 200 HP low boost version in 2018. I'd bet on a low boost (perhaps 1.6 or 1.8l) version to help with both CAFE and emissions over a screamer. - b |
lol I don't think it has a Lotus-ish design :P
screams Alfa and looks like a poor man's Ferrari. Killer looks, RWD, superior manual gearbox to the Z, huge aftermarket support, drop top, and great handling. What's not to like? |
Looks great, but can you still fit a LS1 in there?
|
If they could put my GTI engine (255hp/289tq w/ APR tune, no other mods), this would be the perfect car.

So what's the out the door price on a Nismo Z? 42k? And you only get 350 hp? Guess my point is that it isn't ALL about peak horsepower. I will say if I ever bought a Miata, I'd be looking into a supercharger on day one. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Not losing its heritage with a dash if italian is how I see the new one. I do look forward to driving one, though the Z-R may get a bit jealous. The Z has sentimental value to me, but I would be hard pressed to walk away from a nicely optioned manually operated soft top miata for mid to upper 20's new that was as fun as I think it will be to drive. Time will tell. - b |
Been there, done that. Z35 or 4C for me
|
Hmmm. The Miata always catches a beating from the ugly stick IMO.
|
it would never replace my Z but ive never had a vert so that would be a fun car to try it..maybe. not sure.
|
They released the specs...."sigh". I know its THE most tracked car in the country, not taking anything away from that but for a DD, close to $30K with 155HP and 148TQ....ugh.

imaging having 155 horses in your garage... that's a lot of horses.

Not really interested. I would pick up a used one to make a turbo track/autocross rat out of in a heartbeat but IMO it's a huge step down from the Z as far as a weekend car.

They are really great, fun little cars. I had one as a second car until recently (sold off) -- jinba ittai
The latest iteration is apparently even lighter and more peppy (Hammond was driving one with glee on Top Gear) -- expect a few folks to throw a "flyin' miata" blower on it and turn the car into a screamer. Rear tails are ugly to my eye, but otherwise, I like the new design. Still, not my preference for a next car -- it will be either a Z35 or a 4c. |
yah, i mean.. is this some kind of joke? :icon08:

I like the antenna. It's pretty racy.

They just don't match any other aspect of the car. The rest looks pretty good/unchanged significantly from the last iteration, but those tails are a mystery to me. Hammond didn't like that they changed the front fascia from "happy" to "grumpy", but it doesn't look bad. Apparently they also moved the engine back a bit, so its technically (or very nearly) a midship in design. If they made one with factory boost (they are fun to tool around in, but just don't have enough power), I'd consider one with a hardtop -- but that's basically what the 4c will be... |
But the 4C is like $50K. For that kind of money, I'd be looking at a Cayman.

wow.... so pre-2000 :shakes head: |
Great look. lost weight. Gearbox is great. Mx-5 have been getting great reviews since like 1990....I may consider switching....have to test drive one first though.
