Blackout Headlights

Hi guys, has anyone blacked out their headlights? If there is someone local that can do it I would pay for your services.

Update: Blacked out headlights posted on Page 2.

Neoatw 07-27-2012 04:09 PM

Are you talking about the blackout housing? I did mine recently...:-)

future370zzz 07-27-2012 06:49 PM

Yes, the blackout housing. Did you do it yourself? I'm so jealous! Any pics of them beauties?

Kingbaby 07-27-2012 07:54 PM

future370zzz 07-27-2012 08:57 PM

Seen photos of blackouts. Looking for someone that can actually do them for me. Will pay of course.

Neoatw 07-28-2012 12:38 AM

Yeah, I did it myself following the DIY. I tried the heat gun method, but ended up doing the oven method to open the headlight and all. Where you located? If you need any pointers, let me know, I can help you through it... It is more fun doing the mod yourself because you will feel more "accomplished"... Let me know.

Alexshen1 07-28-2012 04:14 AM

i did my too, as well as the angel eyes, its fun to do. can help you out if you need but i really dont wanna do another set myself haha

future370zzz 07-28-2012 09:10 AM

Thanks for the responses guys. The other problem is that I live in an apartment with other roomates and they are gonna scream when i start baking the headlight.haha

Anyone willing to let me use their oven/tools? Willing to do the work with some help. Can barter with booze, ammo, "special" treats and/or some good ole cash.

weiboy718 07-28-2012 12:08 PM

damn! wished i can help you out for some cash lol. i've got 2 more sets of 350Z lights and 1 set of Porsche 997 to mod before i can take in anymore projects.

If you can wait a bit I can surely help you out.

Sweet. I'm not in too much of a hurry. I'm waiting on both wheels and exhaust. I'm use to it now.haha

anthonyy 07-29-2012 12:43 AM

I'm in... not looking to take these apart myself

Neoatw 07-29-2012 01:21 AM

It wasn't bad bro... the whole project took me 3 days, but because I have 2 kids, and can only work about an hour a day on the car... overall, 10 mins in the oven, paint, 10 mins in the oven again to re seal the lights. The longest time is to wait for the damn paint to dry.

weiboy718 07-29-2012 09:38 AM

I personally would wait at least 24hrs for the paint to completely dry up before resealing the headlights due to fumes on the paint still trying to cure. Can't rush on jobs like these and all it takes is one tiny screw up to mess everything up like down time, paint bubbling, fumes attacking the inside lens etc.

Yeah... That is why it took 3 days for me. Waited overnight for the paint to dry....

future370zzz 07-29-2012 11:09 AM

Yeah, that makes sense to wait for the paint to dry. So Weiboy, can you still do it within a weekend? The car is my DD. Like start on Saturday morning, let paint cure until Sunday morning/afternoon. Doable?

If its only matte paint and non glossy stuff I can do it no problem.

future370zzz 07-29-2012 12:39 PM

I was thinking a Satin black so semigloss. Doable?

Looks pretty good to me. In the sunlight will the black look too dry? I like the satin look

check out my rear valence, it's the same paint as those headlights above and it surely does not look dry at all in any light but you can still provide me with any paint you would want for yours.

All I can say was great work!
First 2 pics were jst park lights while last pic with the headlights on.

Not to take away from Weiboy's buisness but another place to have your headlight done locally is Lightwurkz in Daly City, they do custom work, I haven't dealt with them personally but they seem pretty legit.

Yeah he did. You can pretty much ask him what specific looks you want and he'll try to accommodate you.

I've seen their work and it is pretty legit and no worries, you're not taking business away from me haha. A shop will always charges shop prices and I do this on the side for a little bit of extra cash and I know there's always someone who will want to save a little money for almost the same quality.

Just had Weiboy718 install his blackout headlights on my car. Cool guy and kept in touch to get the look I wanted.

This is his first 370z headlights but he has done numerous other cars (g37s, 350z ).

I provided the angel eyes and he helped me order the led bulbs and wired up the landing strip.

The lights turned out great.

Just be careful if you''re using the oven for the baking. The housing is huge and the corner will touch the oven. I have a tip for you when you're ready to do it diy.
