Hi all.. Title question

Hi all,

I had a question about the title. The title of my Z had 2 names, it was and or title. The question is that what should I do if I want to remove the name to become one owner? Thank you very much.

Is the vehicle paid off? If not, was the vehicle financed under both names?

Oops...just re-read that it's on the title, not the registration. You can typically go to the DMV to have a new title drafted but you may need the other person present as it is a joint ownership.

Thank you for the comment.. the vehicle is already paid off and from the registeration it has 2 name and or, but now I want to remove the other name so it will only have my name only. What is the process for removing the name in the DMV? Thank you

dmv website is your friend:

California Title Transfers - DMV Titling & Registration Information Online - DMV Guide

once you get the title, find out if it has "and" between the names, or if it has "or". should be one or the other. if it has both, then i think you can consider it "or" for purposes of requiring signatures to make your change to the title.

if the title has "and" in between the two owner names, then both owners must sign the paperwork to make the change. (e.g., both owners must agree to the sale of the car).

if the title has "or" in between the two owner names, then either owner can sign the paperwork to make the change (e.g., either owner can sell the car without consent of the other named owner).

hope that helps

Wow.. Thanks, really helped a lot. Hmm I just have another question. The title still not with me yet because I just bought it recently and If I want to change the title name, I will just proceed to the DMV or should I do something else first maybe like making appointment? THanks
