Seattle to Olympia Tuning?

Hey guys hopefully i can close a deal on an exhaust hfc and g3 intakes. If so i will need a tune!!! Where did you guys go that you were completely satisfied with or do you know of any places that I should go? Im looking for value and quality distance not so much an issue thanks all!

Titan1080 10-05-2011 01:30 AM

I went to Intec Racing in Kent, had my Titan UpRev'd there by Lawrence as have several others on here with their 370s. My experience was great, he did a great job! Kito Auto Sport in Seattle is another UpRev place you can check out.

NismoZ370 10-05-2011 01:36 AM

Does Uprev cause any issues i was reading someone had a vdc off issue with knocking or some crazyness??? How much did uprev run you and its just a cable and your ecu is remapped correct? Or is dyno time required? Thanks tons man

Titan1080 10-05-2011 11:25 PM

They were running a special for $650 at the time and it did not include a Cipher cable at the time (I've since bought one). Lawrence spent a little under 2 hours on the dyno with my truck and for what they do, dyno time is pretty much required. Nothing beats a custom tune on a dyno but if you want to go direct with UpRev, you can order Osiris Standard online and they will send you a cable with a license on it and email you a ROM to load based on what you tell them about your Z (mods). You flash the ECU and go take some datalogs, send them to UpRev and they will update your tune based on the logs. My Titan doesn't have VDC so I've never had any issues with that or with anything about the Osiris tune. I would urge that you have a chat with Lawrence about the VHR before you drop the cash, from what we've chatted about, don't expect too much gains as far as peak horsepower (unless you plan to start going for bigger engine mods like long tube headers, bigger injectors and such all the way up to forced induction), what a good tune will do is unlock your throttle (removing the infamous Nissan WOT restriction at low speeds), give your powerband a nice upward shift and smooth out power delivery through all rpms. For what you got, know that should you get additional mods that require a re-tune, you can always go back to Intec and Lawrence will have another go, just have to pay for the dyno time, can't recall but roughly 50-60 an hour.

NismoZ370 10-06-2011 06:35 AM

ill have to check that out thanks man

NismoZ370 10-06-2011 06:41 AM

I just dont want to get screwed over because im completely unfamiliar with tuning.

Nikon FM 10-07-2011 12:25 AM

Like Titan said Intec or Kito know what they are doing and use dynos to dial things in. Running the car on a dyno will allow a tune fitted for your specific car and mods. Personally I would avoid a canned tune or something that comes in the mail.

NismoZ370 10-07-2011 09:38 PM

Thanks for the advice Nikon. So you were saying they had a special for $650 is that everything? That was the tune and dyno (not including the cable)? Do I need the cable right off the bat? How much did the cable cost whats the advantage of getting it? Will i be able to drive my Z after installing these parts before a tune (atleast from Lacey to kent) or will it damage the engine?

Also Titan1080 you said "I would urge that you have a chat with Lawrence about the VHR before you drop the cash"

what is VHR is that the tune with no dyno? sorry im new to tuning

The dyno and tune comes as a package, After the fact there is no hardware or cables…just your car that runs better. You can drive your car after the bolt-ons just fine, unless you put on long tube headers or something really different (you might loose power with something too extreme). A CBE, test pipes and intake will most likely not be a problem. I drove a CBE, test pipes and K&N drop in filters for a while and asked to see my air to fuel rations from the first pull before tune and the ratio was well within spec.

I believe the cable and device are associated with "canned tunes" not dyno tunes…..I've never heard of anyone walking away from a dyno tune with both the adjusted maps and stock maps on a device…would be nice to have though if possible.

thats my dyno tune from about 2 or 3 weeks ago when it was 85 out and 110% humidity lol

The difference in throttle alone was well worth the money. We found out with I/H/E that the VHR motors run almost dangerously lean. my AFR was about 15.4:1 @ WOT so he didn't want to continue the baseline dyno. But a good estimated gain of 9% throughout the powerband was had. Shes definitely alot livelier down low too. If you have any check engine lights for 02 sensors they can also get rid of them permanantly with the uprev software. My car didnt start throwing the code until i installed my catback (already had test pipes and intakes)

But definitely recommend Lawrence @ intec.

 Sweet Love the feedback guys its looking pretty solid to the direction im going! If you dont mind me asking how much did your tune cost? Also if I go to the dealership will they "trip" over my mods and tuning?

I know we already went over no "can" tunes but... An Evo 8 dude told me cobb had a tuner you leave in your car that you can adjust settings ie:Economy, Stock, Power. Whats your guys opinion on this.

NismoZ370 10-08-2011 10:25 PM

Anyone else want a tune we can get a group discount ;) lol

is illtech an authorized uprev tuner?

tjlazer 10-11-2011 12:29 AM

I would also join in if the price is right.

NismoZ370 10-11-2011 12:51 AM

Sounds like a Meet and Tune to me!

For a while I thought Intec was the only authorized tuner in the area, Kito and Illtech could be new Uprev dealers but anyone can buy the Osiris Tuner package and accomplish the same as Lawrence provided they have a dyno and know what they are doing. If a bunch of yalls are having a meet and tune, I'd definitely come and watch.

NismoZ370 10-11-2011 01:30 AM

Always knew kito was but I didnt see illtech on the list. I went to intec just because Lawrence simply has a good rep around him. I haven't heard anything as far as illtechs tuner, haven't even heard a name lol. Same thing at kito, cept I know Bruce loves his time from them.

Bottom line is rather not risk my motor to someone I've heard anything about and osiris trusts Lawrence to use their product for a reason.

370ZNISMO#704 10-11-2011 09:40 PM

No there not but there dyno is brand new and reads almost perfect numbers... But a awesome shop they will be installing my GTM SC stage 2 in for me in a few months..

370ZNISMO#704 10-11-2011 09:53 PM

Ok so this is sounding like a plan I need to know what everyone needs if you just need a tune or if you need the hole package uprev and tune so when I go talk to him I have numbers for him. Also he is a great tuner him and Wade gunned my ef civic to 196.9 whp about 11yrs ago but yes he is the only one I would trust tuning my A/F ratios to be honest. But you can pm or just message here. And I will go talk to him this week my office is three blocks from there shop.. NizmoZ370 I got ur pm... :)

NismoZ370 10-11-2011 10:15 PM

Awesome. Do I need a tune or full package? lol

370ZNISMO#704 10-12-2011 12:35 AM

Lol Yes sir Haha I can't wait to dyno again just put on my red g3s I should be 310 whp now hopefully 320 with a tune.. Damn I love the torque I have now ill put a video up on YouTube of me going into second so much fun lol..

NismoZ370 10-12-2011 02:35 AM

Hey does anyone have experience installing headers? I may get a set of Stillens if someone can help with the install before the tune, but if not then im not going to buy them... I dont wanna pay a shop to do it... Thanks :)

370ZNISMO#704 10-13-2011 02:58 PM

Hmmm I wouldn't do headers unless there long tube. You can search on the forum forthem but all the work it is to get them in theres very little gain and its only at the top of the flow around 5900 rpm and it was charted at like 4-5 whp. But long tube u get double on the top and you get more low end but good luck with finding someone buddy..

NismoZ370 10-13-2011 04:43 PM

Thank man im not going to do it the most people on here saw was ~10whp so it wouldnt be worth the cost plus hassle of install im stoked about this tune and meet though. Any word on pricing?

370ZNISMO#704 10-13-2011 05:56 PM

Still waiting to find out if tjlasser is in for sure.. but I will go check tomorrow with him and see if I can bend his arm a little. Lol

NismoZ370 10-13-2011 05:59 PM

Sounds good  Also can you see how much he would charge to install a stillen underdrive pulley? Thanks broski

im in. just need to know about how much it will cost.

370ZNISMO#704 10-13-2011 06:38 PM

Ok ill check with him tomorrow about pricing also just my two cents I would not do a under drive pully they really screw up the ballance of the crank and they almost get stuck on. Check out GTM's video on trying to get one off that got stuck on not cool..

NismoZ370 10-13-2011 06:45 PM

Thanks for the advice sir!

NismoZ370 10-14-2011 08:08 PM

Any word yet?

370ZNISMO#704 10-15-2011 02:39 AM

No had a lot going on yesterday I will check in with him hopefully tomorrow but I will post asap when I find out..

NismoZ370 10-15-2011 07:48 PM

Cool deal man thanks

370ZNISMO#704 10-19-2011 11:11 PM

Ok I checked with him so if you guys are still interested pm me. Thanks

NismoZ370 10-22-2011 03:33 PM

Pmd still interested

tjlazer 06-18-2012 11:23 AM

I am wanting to get an UPREV soon! The bogging is killing me! I want to get the Fan Control done too!

370ZNISMO#704 06-19-2012 01:08 AM

I still plan on doing mine soon gotta get my x pipe made first. That's gonna be 500 then save for the tune. But the fan control is a must.

NismoZ370 06-20-2012 10:02 AM

I want mine but I'm trying to the M370 motordyne intake manifold first then the tune.
