Great roads in Washington?

What are some good twisty roads to test out my new Z with in Washington? I just would like to drive at a good speed and not worry about cops.

These are fun. No guarantees on whether or not there will be flashing lights.

Good times

When the snow is gone options open up.

BrokenVow 03-10-2009 06:50 PM

the second route is my favorite. the section after the junior high starting with the hairpin is a blast. And going down Mcmurray Road is hair-raising.

I used to live in NE Tacoma so became familiar with the road/route (used to ride my road bike on it to work the hills). Ran it in the car a week ago Saturday. Went up McMurray in 3rd and 2nd around 6k rpm in 2nd. Took traction control off and found that it really is possible to hear the tires squeal in the 370Z........of course I was alone on the road and going the speed limit

I want to put a drive together around Mt Rainier (mid week) during the summer. I did a ~260 mile loop around Rainier in my Turbo Sky and had a great time.............plenty of twisty back roads around Rainier.....(check out the attachment)

BrokenVow 03-12-2009 08:37 PM

I've been meaning to get down to Mt Rainier ever since I got my Z. Haven't had a chance yet.

I usually just stay in 3rd down Mcmurray, in case I'm a little overzealous on the gas in 2nd. It's a pretty narrow road after all. Plus, theres no way I'm really gonna push it down there with the stock brakes. Also the speed limit must be obeyed, like you suggested.

BrokenVow 03-19-2009 11:01 AM

I was just looking at Google maps to get an idea of the roads around Mt Rainier. Doesn't zoom enough. But it looks like going from Paradise to all the way down past Mt St Helens would be a blast. Especially south of Randle. I'd love to try that out. Quite the distance though.

Highway 2 off of I-5 to Lake Chelan is fun. There is even a sign near the start of it that tells you how many days it has been since someone had an accident on it. Just watch out for deer and Winnebagos.

Titan1080 04-07-2010 10:27 PM

There's a route up in my neck of the woods along High Bridge Rd that's pretty fun and twisty, no speeding required. Only thing is it also attracts the local fart can riff-raff, who in turn attract the Smokeys.

Elliott Rd to W Snoqualmie Valley Rd NE - Google Maps

Nikon FM 04-07-2010 11:37 PM

I've been on that route but approached it from 202 (Ames Lake Rd)….fun times.

Rhett 04-21-2010 12:05 PM

Thanks, guys! I will try to go to the roads which you recommend. ^^

Looking towards a good midweek (avoid the motor homes) drive around Rainier mid June. The route initiates from South Hill Puyallup up to Paradice down the backside (past grove of the patriarchs), right turn quite a ways down (away from Stevens Canyon Rd ...unfortunetly) towards White Pass back around the back side of Rainier and then back on 410 with a slight dog leg back to SH Puyallup.

About 260 miles from the starting point.

Interest?

Love that route, I'll cash a vacation day for that! :driving:

1500 S Meridian, Puyallup, WA 98371 to 1500 N Meridian Ave, Puyallup, WA 98371 - Google Maps

So here's the route…so many corners better train up by doing those situps!

There had better be a tier-1 gas station on the far side of the mountain. No way these cars can do 260 spirited miles on one tank. That said, during break-in I've had about 250 miles on one tank.

Titan1080 04-24-2010 10:24 PM

There's a Shell in Enumclaw, should be able to make it there. Besides, nothing wrong with putting a few gallons of premium from whatever station along the way just to get you back, there's one in Greenwater and probably one in Naches.

Nikon FM 04-24-2010 11:55 PM

There are a few stations along the way that suffice. Fill up on South hill prior to start and possibly a top off on the route………….no sweat.

Nice info! Bookmarked that

Titan1080 05-01-2010 11:37 PM

:tup:Nice link, discovered Sultan Basin road with that today. Went there via High Bridge Road to SR203 to Ben Howard Road into Sultan. Here's a map:
Directions to Sultan Basin Rd - Google Maps

The road wasn't the cleanest, there's several gravel spots where they appear to be repairing the road surface and haven't yet finished and I got rained on. Another fun road that doesn't require speed! There appears to be a turn-off that takes you back to Start-Up that I'm itching to check out now, would make a great loop, especially with the Alpen Drive-In burger joint in Start-Up that I always hit on the way home from snowboarding up at Stevens:driving:

Here's a couple pics, the full resolution pics are in my Flickr set: Saturday Drive 5-1-10 - a set on Flickr

Rainier Loop Drive

How does Wednesday 6/16 work for everyone? The idea behind the midweek time is to avoid as many RVs as possible

Zaggeron 06-03-2010 09:55 PM

Haven't been down it for quite a while but highway 12 from Yakima to Centralia (White Pass) was always a blast to drive (during the summer)

Yakima, WA to Centralia, WA - Google Maps

It's a drive, but it's sweet.

Nikon FM 06-03-2010 10:00 PM

That is a good drive. The route I'm proposing above is about 260 miles of really curvy roads. It is a fairly exhausting day but epic in terms of drives to say the least.

Zaggeron 06-03-2010 10:05 PM

Damn those pics make me homesick. Don't have trees like that here in central Tx ... at least not where I live :).

That works for me! Now I just got to remember to tell my boss....

I-5 ----------------> Vancouver

Titan1080 06-25-2010 07:32 PM

Anyone else going on the Z club drive tomorrow? I'll be there for sure and there's a convoy of 350s coming up from the southend.

Cant believe no one suggested the North Cascades highway, early morning mid week When I lived in Seattle i loved to take my Porshe on this road.

Nikon FM 06-26-2010 12:56 AM

I won't be able to make that drive…weather looks okay for it though.

Titan1080 06-28-2010 01:20 AM

That drive was a heck of drive and the weather was epic! A bit of a false start when one of the other drivers got pulled over for speeding on I5 before we got to Mt Vernon but the rest of the drive was without incident. Here's a few pics, some of the rest are in the link:

I was a bit jealous of the 350ZR and all the T-top Z32s, days like that are perfect for them.

azn370z 06-28-2010 01:38 AM

nice pics looked fun.

tjlazer 06-28-2010 01:40 AM

Nice! Wish I could of come. So when are we doing the Mt Rainier drive guys?

Nikon FM 06-29-2010 08:16 PM

Nice pics and turnout! Wish I could have made that.

Rainier drive I'd like to do the last week of July …mid week. How does that work for everyone?

Chava24 04-17-2014 12:34 PM

I'm always down to be part of a Z train and just DRIVE. :)

KingJoseph 04-18-2014 02:01 AM

Agreed! I'm in if it gets organized.

Chava24 04-23-2014 11:11 AM

There's a St. Helen's and Ocean Shores run coming soon! Both public events on Fb. I'm planning on going to both. :)
