Thanks coppa

So I got pulled cruising 80 in a 65 on rt 18. 12am, dry road, no traffic in sight and the cop just was rolling along behind me (they cruise 90), caught up, paced me and threw on the lights. Didn't even notice him there until the rollers lit up.

It's $180 and 4 points. I'm debating whether it's worth going to court over at all. I have no points, and 4 won't get me in trouble. I understand that plea deals can't be used whenever you want, there are restrictions - but I don't know for certain what they are. I think it's like one every 2 years? If that's the case I'd rather save it for something more extreme. Plus going to court would just raise the price of the ticket.

If anyone feels it's worth fighting, let me know why. One time I went to court the prosecutor threatened to revoke my license, I had 8 pts at the time (like, 1999 or thereabouts), so I've been hating showing up in court for speeding tickets ever since. (tho he did calm down and knock 2 pts off my ticket in the end)

Wouldn't your insurance go up?
And in Jersey you are allowed to pay the surcharges twice, I believe.
I had one and payed it off. I got another one last month and then another one 2 weeks later... Sometimes I strongly believe that they're just bored and want to make a bigass scene.

I always hire an attorney and fight it, at least in Florida it has helped keep me at 0 points and no increase in the insurance rate.

you need 6 points for any insurance surcharge, and 8 for any DMV surcharge. So being that I'm still safe, my reasoning is to save the plea bargain for when I get a 2+ pt ticket to keep me from getting surcharged. That'd be worth the extra court cost

OH!
So your saving your 2 Free Tickets basically for worse tickets!
And yeah when you go to court they always charge those extra fees since your going to court and seeing the judge... Hope it all works out for you!
:tiphat:

I recently got pulled over for 59 in a 45. He had me plain and simple. I was prepared for a ticket but was fortunate to receive a warning.

youd think that getting points is a good thing like anything else in like. ie sports games, rep points, ritas stamps, etc...

Going to court and talking to the prosecuter and asking for an Unsafe driving charge would be what I would do. You fine will be higher, but no points. You can use unsafe driving twice, not sure if there is a certain amount of time before you can use them again. Unless you really screw around, like get caught street racing, or reckless driving, you are not going to get a ticket with points much higher than that. And with street racing or reckless they might not even give you unsafe driving, it wouldn't hurt to talk to/take a lawyer with you.

I paid the ticket a while ago and now have 4 points on my license - I'm not paying extra to take off points that won't affect my insurance. If I get another 2 or 4 then it'll be time to act on the plea bargain.
