OK, I will check out the cars and coffee shows. When do they start up again? I live south in Canonsburg so I was going to head to one of those flashlight drags in Waynesburg that I saw mentioned somewhere in this behemoth of a thread.
I see both of you guys have tunes. Where did you get them done at? I can only find TPG in Blairsville that does Nissans. You guys know somewhere else? |
I'm in Brownsville. My daughter lives over by the racetrack. So I'm over that way a lot.
I got my tune at RT Tuning. Over by Philly. The city of brothers on drugs. Vince is good. I'm think on taking my Power Wagon to them to tune. R/T Tuning – Dyno Tuning & Engine Performance Specialists |

flashlight drags is fun but i just got annoyed over time when it was all evos and wrx's since it's not like a prepped track and their AWD just gets off the line so much better than the Z can. i got my tune at AAM in MD. i know most of the PA guys go to philly area to R/T tuning. |
You know, when I asked if you guys knew someplace that wasn't in Blairsville, I was hoping you would say that there was some place close to Pittsburgh, not in the next state over (and not even one of the states that are close!). To me, Blairsville seems far!
Rusty, I'm really liking your journal. I am only three pages in but I have some questions already. I see in your laundry list of mods (which has more parts and components than I would even imagine they would make for a Z) that you have a 34-row oil cooler. Do you do any driving in the winter around here? Does your oil temp gauge even move in the winter? Do you have a blocker plate for the oil cooler? I have only made it to October 2012 in your journal so I haven't seen anything from the winter yet other than your car cover when you first bought it. Second, I just read your post where you got it on the dyno at RT Tuning and added a whole boatload of HP just by "port matching the manifold". Forgive me if I am jumping the gun and you show this process later in the journal but I am of the generation that wants instant gratification! Did you do the machining/matching yourself or did you buy something off the shelf like Z1's ported intake? Or did you do something different altogether? https://www.z1motorsports.com/z1-pro...hr-p-8835.html Third! You mentioned at your work you had an outage and were doing 12 hour shifts. Did you work at a power plant? Really looking forward to reading the rest of it! |
i also run a 34 row but do not drive my car in the colder temps and winter weather. however, even in fall with a 34 row the oil temp struggles to stay at 180 with it.
i know most guys who do run their car year round with a cooler all run block off plates. most just get a piece of aluminum or whatever and some velcro and make it work. i'm sure there's more in-depth and solid solutions you could come up with but this is what i know of. as for tuners, at the time i got mine (2012) nothing was around here at all. alos, my friend was the head sales guy at AAM at that time. most places were chatging me $600 even though i had my own uprev license which is $300 of that $600 tuning cost. i went to AAM since they didnt double charge me. it made sense. also, i had family down there so it was also a good excuse to visit. |
For tuning. There is no body around here I trust.
I park my Z from late Nov, early Dec to late March. If the weather is cold. I will put a couple pieces of duct tape or my aluminum block off plate on the oil cooler. I did my own port matching. No one else was doing it at the time. Now there is a couple of people doing it. I matched about 1 inch into the ports. I eliminated the steps. Nothing major. Just cleaned up the ports. When I did it. All the pictures I took got corrupted during transfer from camera to computer. :shakes head: That boat load also included LTH, cbe and cai. I retired from the power plant in Masontown Pa in 2016. It was Duke Energy. Duke sold it to Dynegy in 2015. So I retired from both Duke and Dynegy. I been there still construction in 2002. |

They run rain or shine. Yeah, every time I look at the weather, it changes. Hope it isn't a complete wash-out.
Either way, I am going to have a blast! |
