I was thinking about renting a storage unit for a few months during the winter, and putting tags on my civic. However, the local storage unit charges $140 a month.

Fellow Z owners without a garage - what do you do in the winter?

You could always buy a good cover and store it outside...

Lots of people put winter tires on their 370Z and drive in the winter.

If you have the means, a storage unit is my first choice OP.

The wind and dust will get underneath and up the sides of the cover.

Storage unit is by far first choice. Many people run covers with no issue though.
I would not drive your z in the winter if they salt the roads. Nissan skimped on rustproofing, and 2-3 winters in you will be seeing major issues |

Then I guess Nissan will be giving out some new cars!
