FYI most radar detectors would not give you enough notice to go from 95 down to anything reasonable by the time you are clocked... maybe you could get to 80

The law used to be 1 pt for anything over state lines regardless of the infraction... not sure if that has changed though. |

Reciprocity; States that report traffic tickets to your home state
The Interstate Drivers License Compact (DLC) requires member states to report tickets received by motorist to the state where they received a license to drive so as to receive points and get an insurance hike. Also when a state suspends the license of a driver who is from out-of-state, the state where the motorist received a license to drive will also suspend their license as well. States not members of the Drivers License Compact: •Georgia •Massachusetts •Wisconsin •Michigan •Tennessee Georgia, Kentucky, Michigan, Wisconsin will report tickets to your home state even though they are not members of the compact. Non-Resident Violator Compact (NVRC) requires member states to suspend the drivers license of those who get traffic tickets for moving violations in other states and fail to pay them. The compact is not suppose to include non-moving violations such as expired inspection stickers, equipment violations such as window tinting or parking violations. A member state may choose to voluntarily suspend a license of a person who does not pay an out-of-state ticket for an equipment violation such as loud exhaust. States not members of the Non-Resident Violator Compact (NVRC) are •Alaska •California •Montana •Oregon •Wisconsin •Michigan

Keep in mind a radar detector will only be helpful if you know how to use it properly. Sometimes they can give a false sense of security...Research how they work etc
If it were me I'd get the V1. |

Valentine One is the best radar IMO and it saved me countless times from several thousands $ worth of tickets.

alot of people say the valentine, especially because of its compact size as opposed to the passports. but i had a 8500x50 and now have a 9500, and i can tell you that passport r usually cheaper used. around here you can usually get an 8500x50 for around $120. ive never had issues.

I'd personally go with the "let's relax on the speeding instead of searching for a radar detector at least until you get through this mildly serious traffic ticket".
You could be looking at some major fines at the very least. I've been hit for $200+ for being around 15-20 over... I'd guesstimate you're looking easily in the 400-500 range plus court costs plus lawyer fees. Not trying to act more holy than thou (like I said I have a moderate amount of tickets over my lifetime, I'm just saying this might get worse before it gets better and searching for the $200+ excuse to keep speeding isn't the most responsible way to go at the moment IMO. Also I don't think they are illegal in NJ unless the law has changed in the last 5 years or so. You're only hope at this point is pleeding guilty to a non-moving violation... believe it is called impeding the flow of traffic or unsafe operation of a motor vehicle (varies) which carries no points but the fines are significantly higher... also you only get 3 of these over your lifetime. Shouldn't affect insurance but again you are easily talking 500-1000 in fines but no loss of license or points. Not sure if it has any maximum speed requirements though. |

i wasnt trying to encourage him, but it just doesnt seem likely that someone who goes over the limit that excessively will be able to tone it down lol

He didn't cut you no slack!
However, here in the Republic of Virginia anything over 80 mph is reckless driving. 1st - Get a GOOD Lawyer 2nd - Do a Driving School 3rd - Slow Down! GL
