Default G37x Sedan?

Guys,

I'm thinking of trading my CTS-V for a 2009 G37x Sedan. Any thoughts since it's similar to the 370z?

Why are you thinking about doing that, just looking for something different?

How is it similar to the 370Z?

Same chassis, same transmission, same engine.

I'd say they're similar. A G37 starts life as a Z.

The coupe, maybe. But having similar drivetrains doesn't make it the same car. That's like calling a lotus the same as a camry or and areil atom the same as a civic. The driving dynamics vary greatly, so you can't really judge one car by driving another. He would be better of asking G37 sedan owners. It may have started on the same platform, but the chassis couldn't be any more different.

Nah, he said it was similar not the same. Having owned both, I agree with him - the G37 Sedan is still very much a 4-door 370Z.

I'd agree. They have a very similar feel. They share a lot of the same suspension components and have a lot of the same mannerisms. Decidedly longer wheelbase makes it a sedan rather than a sports car but still a lot of fun to throw around. The X model is about 150 lbs heavier than the RWD sedan but you do gain some nice traction and the car still has a mostly RWD feel to it. Wasn't a fan of the 5AT but the new 7AT is nice.

Your giving up a lot of power though with the CTS-V.

I have an 05 CTSV and while it's nice, it's still got the American car issues. I hadn't bought an American car in 20 years because of build issues and those nagging items like door handles, rattles, vibrations, etc. I figured the V was the cream of the crop so I picked up a used one a few years ago at a discount. Well the power is nice, brakes are outrageous, and handling is decent. However, the issue lies in that it has those usual >50k mile issues inherit to most American cars.

I realize that the G37 sedan is NOT a Z, but as others have mentioned it's the same chassis, motor, and drivetrain. Obviously heavier and a longer wheelbase and not as much power as my CTS. I just picked up a 2011 STi Hatch, so my power/track car will lie in the STi. So now I'm debating a C300 4-matic or G37x for a daily driver that I can just relax in and go to work with. Power with a balance of milage is what I'm after with some luxury thrown in but still a good handling car.

Thanks for all the input.

-mike

C300 is a sh*t car. My next door neighbor/friend has one and I hate driving that thing, plus the 4Matic is the worst AWD system I've ever seen. It has no locking diffs, so if just one wheel has no traction in snow, that wheel will just keep spinning and you're standing in one place.

Get the G37x.

Given that criteria it sounds like the G37 sedan would be a good choice. I've never driven a sedan but my Z is great and I think it would make a fine sedan
A guy I work with has a one that he is really happy with, I think it's a g35 though but he likes it and the g37 will only be better

I did notice that the 4-matic sucked on my neighbor's e350 this winter. My subie just pulled right out, he had to rock his back and forth, and I was puzzled thinking it was just a non-4matic but I went out later to verify that it was in fact a 4-matic.

Thanks for all the input guys!

If you're looking to spend in the $40Ks, I would also suggest looking at the new Audi S4 either used or new. Absolutely superb car, one of my very favorites.

Nah, looking in the high 20s. If I was gonna break into the 40s I would likely go for something entirely different.

I don't think you want to do this huge DOWNGRADE...
V8 s/c vs V6 n/a
Probably more wider car, slower, weaker.
Only advantage I see is during winter time for snow.
Price range for a G37x new is like mid 40-50k
Used is probably 30-40.
I would rather keep my car and not lose in trade.
Unless payments are getting bad, I would then switch over to the mustang gt or an evo10mr.
