UPRev Pro Tuner in North East

I need to find a reputable UpRev pro tuner in the North East. I live in NY but I've heard enough negative things about Performance Motorsport that I don't want to take it there. I won't go into detail as it may be defamatory but I don't want to go there. I don't mind a weekend road trip so please name all reputable shops, who you dealt with, a short review and if you don't mind the price you paid for a custom dyno tune. :tiphat:

JDMFairlady21 08-29-2010 02:42 PM

Hey man I'm curious to know what happened, if you don't mind pm'ing me your concerns or a contact # so I can atleast be aware of anything that isn't right. We're going through some personnel changes in the front office anoffice, so I'd like to really make sure that all the right changes and done.

We're Uprev's #1 pro-tuner, actually only second to Uprev themselves btw. We custom tune for $600 also btw.

But like I stated, if you can contact me, I'd like to chat about your concerns regarding our shop :)

Regards,
Alex

They are a Cobb dealer but they tune Uprev as well. In the second link above, you'll see Import Tuner just did their 370Z project car at EFI Logics with Stillen bolt-ons and Uprev.

if you are willing to travel to Massachusetts, you might want to check these guys out: About - Kaizen Tuning LLC. Not sure if they do exactly what you are looking for (I am not familiar with UpRev), but definitely worth it to give them a call.

I swung by their shop last week. They are very knowledgeable about Nissan Zs and GTRs. I am having them install an oil cooler on my Nismo in a few weeks.

Good Luck,
Jim

NYBladeZ 08-29-2010 11:21 PM

Alex, I'll be in touch this week and we can chat.

CrownR426 08-30-2010 10:50 AM

Why don't you check out on of our vendors thats a certified Pro Tuner with UpRev?!
Check out JTuned in DE! Real close to south jersey! I have to take my z there soon...

Cmike2780 08-30-2010 01:14 PM

Did you try looking at Vinny Ten Racing? I've only heard of their shop around the forum and I'm not sure they do UpRev tunes but its worth a shot if your looking for something close by. They are very familiar with the Z and a few members here have been to their shop.

Vinny Ten Racing

NYBladeZ 08-31-2010 09:13 AM

Yeah I've met with Vinny, he makes some monster Z's but he doesn't use uprev

CrownR426 08-31-2010 09:19 AM

Please take my advice and go to J Tune, the only pro tuner for Osiris UpRev!

red6spd 08-31-2010 09:53 AM

I only recently started to learn about Performance motorsports since I never had a car that they would bother with. But I dont think there that bad if there listed under UpRev's website as an installer.

JDMFairlady21 08-31-2010 11:55 AM

yea I'm slacking on the formal introduction. Will get that done in a bit.

But yea, we've done a ton of Z34 and Z33 Uprev tunes, FI and n/a. Only second to Osiris themselves, as I stated above. Click my sig for a tour of the shop ;)

looking forward to hearing from you OP :tiphat:

PM'd Alex, hope he gets back to me soon. I appreciate everyone coming forth with other options and other shops chiming in. I'm going to wait until my hometown shop via Alex gets back to me.

Hey, don't worry and take your time. FYI, we used to open on Saturday to public but since we are backed up with the works, we are only open for appointment but if you like to stop by on one of the Saturday, just give us a call in head of time. ;)

kielbasa16 10-26-2010 03:47 PM

Not to jack the thread or anything, but since its been idle for a little while Ill shoot something up. I will be heading out to Performance Motorsport East in Smithtown on Saturday Nov 6th to get the UpRev tune.

I spoke with Alex today and he was more than happy to walk me through the entire process and what I can expect. Im really looking forward to it.

Your gonna love the car after the tune. Plus the guys at performance are real nice. If I come across an extra 10-11K they will be doing my full TT set-up LOL... If I'm not in PA that weekend I'll probably see ya there.

Very cool, I wish the 6th would come faster.
NYBladeZ said he might come through also, would be good to meet a few other LI Z's.

NismoZ34 10-28-2010 04:01 PM

I would definitly reccommend Performance Motorsports as well. Just like Jarred said, they are the nicest people i have ever met working ona car. I will be there on November 20th getting my Test Pipes installed. I will be getting Uprev installed for sure but i am installing all my bolt on parts first. I reccommend you do the same :)

Ive pretty much got all the bolt ons I am interested in at this point - those listed in my sig. Only other I am debating are the NST pulleys, but would those really affect a tune at this point?

I definitely agree that my first impression of Alex and their business was a positive one. Its amazing what a little friendliness and a detailed explanation of the product can do.

Talk to them about the pulley... You might make up your mind alot faster then you think.

RedBullRR 10-29-2010 09:55 AM

I've meet with Alex personally and he was more then happy to show me and my girlfriend around. Seems like a cool dude and from what I understand they do Cars and coffee meets on Saturday mornings. You may want to go down and get to know the shop and guy before you judge.

I know when Im ready and I have my I/E/Cats done I'm going there for a tune. Sorry Alex, wont be for a while buying a new 370Z unexpected kinda thru me for a tail spin. LOL

RedBullRR 10-29-2010 09:55 AM

I'd also like to know more on the different tunes and how they get controlled by your cruise control buttons?!

370Zsteve 10-29-2010 09:59 AM

NYBladeZ - you posted this in August....you basically trashed Alex's shop really for no good reason....and now you've vanished from this thread?

Dude!

I PMed NYBladeZ because it would be great to get tuned so close to home and the tone towards Performance Motorsports wasnt a great one. Im fairly sure that whatever negative conception NYBladeZ originally had of them has been resolved, which is a testament to both of them. BladeZ was actually the one who recommended I call Alex and set up an appointment to get tuned. I think the only issue here is that the thread died and nobody ever jumped back in and said the air had been cleared.

There all gonna tell you its a bad idea installiing the pulley. Something about throwing the engine out of balance. Talk to them about it for more info because I dont remember exactly what it was. All I know is they do not like it.

That's cool...it would just be good to hear it from him, that's all. I hate when people trash a vendor for no good reason, in effect hurting the reputation of said vendor.

(They are Uprev's #1 NE tuner...you think Uprev would support them at all if they sucked?)

It's a matter of doing the right thing. In this case, that would be to delete this thread.

Well Im pretty confident Ill have some good things to say about them in this thread come next weekend. So hopefully then the thread will paint a more accurate picture of the shop.

I read a couple of discussions about pulleys for the car and it seems like the pulley is not a harmonic balancer for the engine, despite the way it looks. Replacing the pulley with a lightweight one with get you better throttle response apparently, and going with an underdrive pulley will net you minor HP gains from what I recall seeing.

Link to a thread discussing pulleys (in relation to the VQ37)

I sent a PM to the guys at Performance about the pulleys but havent heard anything back. Ive read through a bunch of the threads on the pulleys and the guys from NST seem pretty confident the car could even run smoother with it installed. Either way, Ill put that on hold for now until Ive gotten some more input from others who have them installed.

kielbasa16 11-03-2010 09:12 AM

By the way, wanted to remind people that I will be going to Performance on Saturday morning. I believe they open at 9 and said to come in as early as possible (Ill try to come in at 9ish but depends on Friday night...)

A few NY/LI members mentioned they might show up, so let me know if anybody still intends to!

red6spd 11-03-2010 09:14 AM
