Getting Gas in NJ

I hate getting gas in NJ. Usually, they drop the cap on the car and don’t use the loop. If they don’t do that, they over-tighten the cap or do something else they shouldn’t do. I’ve tried getting out as fast as I can to set it up for them, but most of the time they’re already popping the gas door open before I can get out of the car. This past weekend topped everything though. I went to a place I go to on a regular basis and got the person that seems to be fairly careful with everything, but this time, for whatever reason, the attendant yanked at the cap and broke the loop at the end of the cord. Not having the option to pump the gas myself makes getting gas way too stressful. Sorry, had to vent.

wow.. that sucks. I don't think I have any bad story to share.

BTW, I saw you put Location: Wayne, PA/Ventnor, NJ. Do you live in South Jersey? (Ventnor, NJ). If you do, then you live too close to me :ugh:

I'm in Ventnor every weekend for the majority of the year and I pass your car on the way there and back. Do you have a good place for gas in the area?

haha.. lmao! Actually a Platinum Graphite member live in Ventnor too. I spotted him in near Pathmark shopping center. Small world!

I usually fill up from the AC expressway entrance because I only put Sunoco in my car. I don't know, I just do. I put the same in my 350Z too. Sometimes I also fill up from the Sunoco in Northfield (across from Pepboys). I never had bad experience.

Sunoco is the brand of gas they use in race cars and such, but sadly I dont have one close to me, so i use speedway gas -.-
never had a bad experience like that though.

Three of us? Sounds like the early stages of a meet in the Ventnor Plaza shopping center.

What's your take on Texaco (with Techron) and Shell (with Nitrogen), both with 93 octanes? Thanks.

So NJ isn't rocking the "self serve" yet or what?

Nope. Full service ONLY.

Jesse_Hunter 06-08-2010 04:49 PM

Wow, I didn't know anyone was still only doing full service, Thats kind of nifty though.

I'm originally from a town in Texas of 4000 people. When I was younger I worked at a local store there, people wouldn't believe me when I told them they could pump gas BEFORE they paid.

No real mods yet, unless you consider drop in K&Ns, a cabin air filter (thanks to the370z.com DIY), and a semi-custom cargo mat mods. And don't worry...you'll probably never see it. I put it in the driveway when I get there and it stays there all weekend until I leave.

That makes 4 of us in the area. This could be the early stages of something interesting. If a few Z enthusiasts wanted to meet once in Ventnor, Atlantic City, etc. and see where it goes from there, I'd be interested. If there's more interest, I'll start a separate post.

Sounds good to me!

Also you guys need to do what I do. Pull up get out of the car even before opening the tank. Than open it stand RIGHT NEXT TO THE TANK. And if they slam it in or do something wrong say something about it. I do not drive a nice sports car but I want respect for my car. Than after they d it right for a while and you correct what they do wrong you throw them a tip here and there.

It's all good, I wouldn't have known either if I didn't fill up my own gas.

Is there price difference between self and full service ? I love the full service idea because we pay the same price as the rest of the country and still get full service  In freezing winter or scorching summer heat, we don't have to get out of our cars

Yes, that was me heading home. I agree...that car in that color looks like nothing else on the road. I wasn't sure what was coming at me at first, but got $#!+faced when I realized what I was seeing.

:icon17: I felt the exact same way. At first I was like, wow that car looks great. As I was getting closer, I realized it's a Blue 370Z! I was like . Did you do anything to your car yet?

Yea, It's the same price but at least I have the right gas in the tank and no gas spill on the fender

Quite a few gas stations here don't even have a Full Service side, It's actually rare to see now.

Dude, tell me about it! When I had the 350Z, this idiot attendant put 87 in my tank even I told him 6 times "93 Premium please". After about 10 gallons, I happen to look at the meter and saw it. I immediately yelled at him to stop the pump and asked him to fill up the rest with 93. From that incident, I DO NOT look away until the attendant started the pump! I still do this everytime. I think I really wouldn't mind self service as I will be much more careful filling up my car. Too bad, it's illegal (I think) in New Jersery :(.

The only thing I have done to it since the filters is put it on a steady diet of gas from PA. I’ve gone back and forth on a few things (cat-back exhaust and/or HFCs, wheels, rear fog light, etc.), but it will probably be a while before I do anything significant.
