To all tinted Zs in NYC tri-state area
 

If your tints look dark you will get pulled over. I got nabbed 5 times alone in the last week :shakes head:, but im still not taking them off. Before flaming starts, no I don't drive like an ***, nor do i attract necessary attention. I got pulled solely for the 20's. Be careful guys!

NY State window tint law is 70% . You may not drive like an ***, but stating that you are not taking the 20% tint off after getting stopped 5x's in one week makes one wonder...............?

when you see a cop nearby just roll your windows all the way down, then roll them up when youre out of his sight, i know ppl that do that and they dont get tickets :)

I have 40% in my car and I have got 0 tickets. I was pulled over at least 4 times post tint and not a single warning or ticket. I personally believe 40% is the way to go in this car.

That only works if the weather is warm. If you drive past a cop with your windows down when it's like 40 degrees out or colder the cop isn't that stupid. My one buddy who is a cop laughs at people who try that under those conditions.

Stay out of Marlboro, that's where I've gotten all my tint tickets. Even worse, stay out of Freehold - they will ticket you and require you to appear at court to pay the fine and show the officer that you've had your tint removed. Seriously. I was one of like 8 other people there for tint violation (this was Jan of this year, got stopped by a cop when I went to Freehold Mall for xmas shopping the previous month).

I've not put tint back on, because I'm in and around Marlboro/Freehold area too much :/

BTW any tint on your front windows is illegal in NJ. You won't even pass inspection (unless you know a licensed inspector who's willing to just check you on emissions).

its because of this that I probably won't go with any tints on this car

hatch and c-windows won't give you trouble. You'll only get pulled if you have any on your driver/passenger windows

i have 20% all the way around and 35% on my windshield and idk why i haven't been pulled over but knock on wood. it looks great idk tint laws are stupid unless its 5%

I've had 0-5% on every car I've owned (except my 72 beetle) and I've never had a ticket for tint, and that was living in VA.

I decided to get 35% on the Z since it's the legal limit (32%) in GA.

When I had 0%, I rolled my windows down when I passed cops, and definitely rolled them down when I got pulled over. Cops in my family pull people for tint because they can't see in their car, not because the windows are tinted (if that makes sense).

i tinted my g 20% all around, but now that cops are going hardcore here in nyc over tints, i'm not gonna even bother tinting the z, i can do without the headaches. i have a handfull of tint tickets from the G.

In NY your windows have to ALLOW 70% of the light in, therefore any aftermarket tint on your two front windows is illegal...

yeah 35% on the windshield. tinting your windshield blocks so much and if you get high quality tint there's no problem with visibility.

So do u guys think I'd b good with a 40% all around tint?

i had tint on my other car and in the town i live in, in NJ and the cops are is the worst. seriously. i would drive around all over NJ all day but as soon as i got back into the town where i live i would have to roll the windows down. sucks. eventually took them off.

you'll get pulled over. only a matter of time.

He's from Georgia, so perhaps not. Different laws down there.

**UPDATE** Ok after weeks of contemplation, i finally gave in:mad: since the last post i got pulled over another 2 times. I swear the cops are targeting my Z for some reason :confused: I went with 35% all around; even though thats a 15 percent increase in transmittable light, I still feel like im driving a fishbowl!

no I got pulled over plenty of times for my FX and QX in the damn sunlight!

the state and county need $$$$ thats all it is.

I still haven't had a single issue with my plate. However, there was a 2 year grace period where I didn't get in trouble for my tint either. So it's just a matter of time.

i think its all by chance, wrong place at the wrong time. keep the tints, especially if you have aftermarket head units in your car, you need tints so people cant see what you have inside your car with the intentions of breaking into it, **** some people even steal airbags and sell them for thousands

How much did tinting the Z cost NY/NJ people?
I remember getting my old buick tinted for $150 (4 windows + rear)... and I guess fewer windows in the Z means it should be cheaper?

It'll depend on where you go, but mine was $160 total (tax + labor). Your huge rear hatch window makes up for the smaller "rear" windows.

There's a shop in my town that charges 200

Got my tints on the red Z... 20% back and legal 30 or was it 35% side. 20% on the rear hatch too.

Paid $175 cash, no tax, in Centereach NY.

75% is the legal limit in NYS buddy. but they shouldn't bother u for that combo

I get all my cars tinted at SHADES of GRAY. I think they are one of the best in tri state area. I paid 175 btw

Im NNJ have 20% since the day after I bought my Z (9/09) dont have a front license and have not gotten stopped.

There is a great tint shop on Bloomfield Ave in Bloomfield, they did my 350z and my 370z for less than $100

I have 35% tint all around and no front license plate in freehold haven't had a problem as of yet. Got my tints done for 125

Just as an FYI,
NJ has "100% NO tint" law for the front driver, & passenger side windows, as well as the front windshield. NJ 39:3-75 <Don't ask me how I know about the statute, coz it will just piss me off> :shakes head:

For how long have you had this? And how often are you out driving around? Only a matter of time man. And like I said earlier in this thread, if they catch you in Freehold they make you appear in court and they send the bailiff out to check your car to make sure the tint has been removed. So you get docked the ticket + tint removal + court fee. You're playin with fire man, good luck! There were about 3-4 other people in court that day with me who were also paying tint tickets. That's when I finally said screw it for all around tint.

The only other town I've been pulled over for tint is Marlboro, but I was able to just pay both tickets online.

Oh and this is apparently a primary offense. I was stopped in Freehold only because I had tint on my front windows. The cop pulled behind me while I sat at a light at the loop around Freehold Mall. In fact he turned around after passing me sitting at the light. In pouring rain.

been like that for almost a year.. i got the tint done cheap so i didnt mind if i had to take the fronts off eventualy. Why would you pay for tint removal when you can just do it yourself?

My black interior makes my tint % look darker. I have 30% sides and rear. But it looks like 15% or 20%. 5 months of owning a Z, 0 tickets yet. well 1 exceeding the speed limit ticket thats about it lol

Have you ever taken tint off? It's a job and a half and never mind the residue. Me personally I would rather pay someone.

^ i had to take my front window tint off my last car. i did the driver side and my dad did the passenger side. it took us 15 mins. all you need is some glass cleaner and a razor blade

Yea well, just so you know. I coasted under the radar for two years and then within a year I got two tickets in Marlboro and the one in Freehold. Enjoy it while it lasts, all I'm sayin
