The 370Z was not a huge seller either, and required big discounts just to move cars. The 350Z sold WAY better than the 370Z. (The 350 sold more cars in the first year than the 370 did in 3 or 4 years IIRC). I predict this car will be worse, much worse. I'm betting they will stop making it before 5 years gets here. Much like the Infinity Q30 that lasted less than 2 years IIRC.

Don't get me wrong - I might be in the minority here but I do like the new Z and the fact that it is a twin turbo - I just wish that the Sport would have been $45k and the base being like $40k - bring people back to the brand - especially when there are so many vids of YT influencers and even car reviewers who while they are Z fans - aren't finding a lot of positive things to say about it. If you could get a loaded Z for about $45k - you can do A LOT with that 10k difference compared to a Supra - and you can FORGIVE a lot of shortcomings bc of the price difference.
As mentioned earlier, anything is worth whatever a buyer is willing to pay. Nissan isn't going to back down on pricing because they know there is a market for the new Z and people will buy it. For example, I can NEVER justify paying close to $60K for a civic type r, but I have seen plenty of them on the streets.

To be fair, the 350Z came out after Nissan took a hiatus from the Z line, and during that time, they built anticipation.

The 370Z came out with no gap in production of the Z line, and people weren't as excited about it.

The new Z just needs to go. I've seen and driven it. What a disgrace. Same with the BMW "supra".

I may go test drive the one sitting there just to see what I think.

I think it was mostly in the timing. In 2003 there was only the Mustang. No Camaro and no Challenger. In 2009 there was the newer Mustang, Camaro and the Challenger. The 370 Z simply got overshadowed. It also could have used the 400 hp back then, just as it needs more like 450 or 500 now to help keep up. JMO.

I would compare the new Z driving experience to the likes of driving the Q60 Red Sport model.

^^This, all day. The Z has always, until now, been competitive, if not a competitor SMASHER at a LOWER price. This Z35 does not offer ANY of that. Id rather get used GTR, or C7. Or a new Mustang/Camaro. All of which HUMILAITE the Z35 in every spectrum for the same price.

Methinks that Nissan priced itself out of Z sales, given what they offer versus the competition. Also, the hideous half-grille does not help things either. Did something on the road break the bottom teeth?

COVID has alot to do with random/abrupt price increases. Supply chain, manufacturing, distribution, and semiconductor/chips for cars are all issues that heavily contribute to this.

I'm willing to bet that if COVID never happened, the pricing on the new Z would be comparable to the 370Z MSRP.

the Z34.5 barely needed any development of any mechanical aspects

The "newest" thing they did was mate the Z34 transmission with the turbo engine which didn't have any existing manual options

It seems like all the "development" went into the new front and rear ends, only one of which was successful. That front end sucks so bad. I like the rear more than the Z34's sharkfin

the chassis, suspension, and most of the interior were all carried over, so . . . it's alot to put on "supply chain"

Exactly my point. They probably used the resources they had available at the time due to the lack of supplies of new sh!t, while needing to come out with a "new product".

The entire car is a disgrace. The only area of interest I have of this car is the CSC, since they have seemed to relocated on the outside of the tranny and curious to see how this holds up.

Well, I suppose I’m going to be the minority opinion here but I like the looks of the z34.5 better now vs the 370z.

IMO, the boomerang headlights and taillights are not aging well and the “voluptuous” proportions are looking a bit fat and sloppy vs the tighter more athletic new Z.

The new Z’s front grill being so squared off leaves a bit to be desired for sure and it’s not perfect by any means but after having seen a few in person on the street both static and in motion, to me, I think it’s better looking.

As far as driving experience, haven’t driven a new one yet but have owned 2 370z nismos both modded and in stock form the 370z never really impressed me, add full spl suspension and then it’s a completely different/better car.

The extra hp and factory tt kit alone make this an improvement even if the driving dynamics still aren’t hard edged/sporty enough outta the box. Hopefully the new nismo addresses this.

Once the hoopla dies down and they’re available at Msrp, I think it makes sense. If you want a super hardcore track weapon, you either build one or you pony up the $$ for an RS Porsche or z06 vette.

I plan to go take that yellow Z for a test drive today. Last I saw 3 days ago it was still sitting there. As well it should. 50+ k for a $40k sticker car with 30,000+ miles on it is just plain STUPID.

I know it will be quicker, but really curious to feel the electronic steering and handling.

I'll report back if it works out.

Looks wise - I like both the 370z and the new Z; but I feel at its current price point - I just wouldn't get one new. Even though it is offering the TT setup and it can be modded etc. I just feel it priced itself outside of what it should have been when compared to the competition. The fact that this car is not performing well (at least according to the YouTube click-baiters etc) but still - some of those guys I definitely respect their opinion and they aren't Nissan haters etc.

The question for me is - is it better to TT the current 370z and deal with the headaches associated with it, or is it better to take a newer platform such as the new Z which has the TT setup and the piping etc etc - and then look to address the shortcomings it has mainly with the braking and suspension. I would be on the idea of taking a new Z and going from there - but between the price and the markups bc of lack of availability - not sure anymore.

Regardless - I do agree - adding suspension bits to the 370z really transforms the car. Having a TT setup out of the box and an improved interior - add the SPL catalogue and I'm sure the new Z will be great. My only issue - is the price. You are starting off at such a high price that it has turned from 'bargain' to 'not so much anymore'. Maybe after this car has been out for about 5yrs - will I look for a used one to then mod it to my specs - but then I will be looking to cross shop it with a manual Supra as well.
