As a 5 year owner of a 2017 M2 and 6 year owner of a 2013 Sport Z (sold 6 months after M2 purchase) both manuals. I’ll give my opinions of the shifter and clutch.

First the shifter. The M2 has longer shifts, feels rubbery and is a bit notchy. The Z’s, is not perfect either, but it is shorter and while notchy as well, feels more bolt action like. However, comparing them both to my sons Type R. The Type R wins. It’s short, precise and very bolt action like.

Clutch. The M2 is long and light, but comes up a little to high. However, it is easy to find the pick up point, the length of the grab area (sorry don’t know the proper term) is just right. With hill stop, light clutch, easy and nice grab area. It is the easiest manual I’ve ever driven.

The Z’s clutch pedal travel is shorter, slightly heavier and the pick up point is slightly higher. However the grab point on the Z is very short. I never needed hill stop on the Z, even on some major inclines, however it’s really a cool feature to have.

The Type R, has a pedal, whose weight is in between that of the M2 & Z, the shortest pedal travel, nice pick up point and grab area, plus hill stop. No doubt the best of all 3 cars.

But going back to M2 & Z, I have rarely ever mis-shifted or killed the engine on a start on both. And while they both aren’t as good as the Type R, I prefer the M2 manual slightly over the Z.
