So if they decided to stay true to this, (which they should) then the next Z should be the 380z or 400Z or whatever. We know the number represents the size of the engine, and this is where Nissan would have a problem.

I don't think Nissan is making big liter engines due to emissions. The Q50 400 Red is called that not because of the engine size but fort it's horsepower.

So, Nissan is at a crossroads. If they call the next Fairlady a 400Z based on Horsepower, then they would be braking a 50 year old tradition of naming the car based on the engine size.

I very well think this is it for the Z as it can not continue with this numeration without braking tradition.
If your theory is correct, what is wrong with a 380? Bump up .1 litre and maybe TT's?

Yes.. Let's hope that's what it is... But, I don't see any engines in the Infinity lineup that are 3.8 liters. I doubt they're gonna make a special engine just for the Z

It's going to be named 300TT. As in 3.0 TT

If they discontinue the z, it might be time to boost the z34

In January, allegedly Nissan was going to show us a Z concept at the Tokyo Auto Show, which isn't until the end of October.

http://www.motorauthority.com/news/1...okyo-auto-show

TOKYO MOTOR SHOW [TMS] WEB SITE

I imagine we'll hear something much more definitive by then.

"Not a priority" just means they are having more internal meetings over the next Leaf or Juke or whatever.

If it doesn't happen then so be it, but until they release a press statement saying "the Z car is officially discontinued" (as they did for the roadster, BTW...) I wouldn't sweat it too much just yet.

Another way to look at it is that there have been dozens of assurances from Nissan that the Z car will have at least one more iteration, whereas there is only this one nebulous statement indicating that it won't.

Its not like Nissan is taking pre-orders from wishful potential suckers or anything. The best indication that there will be a Z is that they've got the Q60 parts bin to draw from. Other than that, its all speculation, even if a concept does get released at the TMS, until the assembly lines get rolling.

I don't think anyone's heart will be irreparably broken if it doesn't get made. There are far less likely things to hope for... so far the Z35 is still at least as likely as not.

Default [OFFICIAL] Discussion for the next new Z35?

As far as I have read they never said they weren't making it. They just said it isn't a priority. Saying it isn't a priority isn't saying they won't make it, it's just saying they have something else to finish first. They have recently updated almost the entire line, the only cars left are the Versa which I doubt they are going to update right away, the leaf (ugh), and the Pathfinder and Armada. We all know us Americans love huge SUVs for some reason, so I suspect they are working on updating those models then might turn their attention to a new z when they have an entirely fresh lineup. Which I would hope is before the 50th anniversary.

I'm with Jodo, nothing is ever over until it's over lol. What does not a priority really mean? I could simply the Z will continue in its current form until they decide to do something different. If the Z is not losing them a significant amount of money or detracting from other "PRIORITIES" I think Nissan will remain comfortably numb on the Z!

Default [OFFICIAL] Discussion for the next new Z35?

I feel like some of you guys are reading too much into what that guy said. The article quotes him saying that the 370z is not a priority. Why would the 370z specifically be a priority now after years of stagnation? I think he is referring to the 370Z specifically, especially since there is no other context given to us and he actually says "370z". Maybe that was a response to a question regarding the heritage edition. Then he said he hopes that they will have a successor, which falls in line with what Nissan itself has been doing with Z speculation. Not confirming, nor denying. I really think his comments are being taken out of context and people are running with it. Thats the kind of thing these articles do to generate buzz. Especially since every outlet that I can find only quotes the same 2 exact things as everyone else and nothing else that he said in between or before those quotes. It leads me to believe that they are just piggybacking off of what one journalist wrote and building on that.

Yes, I think everyone here agrees. The Z is discontinued because they can no longer follow traditional naming conventions
