Everyone seems to be hyperventilating about the demise of the Nissan Z. The Z was dead for a few years, then came back. The Toyota Supra went dead for a number of years, now it's coming back. The Acura NSX, same. Maybe the MR2? If they were worthy to begin with, they'll probably be back in a few years. I am really salivating over that new NSX. What a beauty!! If only I could afford it. But if I could afford it, I'd still keep my Z

The next one is going to have to be a 12 second car off the lot just to be competitive

While I agree with your comments, I disagree on the interpretation based on nothing more than my hope.

It's not uncommon for product planning guys to give off false vibes just before a new model is introduced. I really struggle with the idea that Nissan would announce the debut of a new Z concept for Tokyo in October while also planning to kill the line off.

Tadge Juechter, Corvette Chief Engineer, is notorious for denying upgrades, changes and new models right up to their introduction. I've seen Toyota and Ford do the same.

The vast amount of cost in developing the car was accomplished with the Q60. I think (again based on hope) that the Z35 follows the introduction pattern of the Z34/G37 - Z introduction 6 - 12 months after Q introduction.

Again, this is based on nothing more than hope. I'm waiting to see what happens in October. If the Z35 looks like a winner, and more importantly a go, I'll wait for introduction. Otherwise, I'm picking-up a 2017/2018 Nismo Z34.

We have just over six months to find out.

I agree with both sides. It makes no sense Nissan would make an announcement and suddenly a month later it doesn't happen. But then again. Mazda does it all the time with the RX-9!!!

Point is made when they stated that it came straight from the horses mouth that there's an air of hope for a Z to come out but things are still up in the air... Maybe he's eluding us? Maybe there's some truth?

What I've learned is... Nissan PR sucks balls. Nissan is inconsistent and their version of creating excitement for the Z is more prone to drive away enthusiasts than actually generate them. It's the worst PR of any car company.

Don't even get me started on Mazda. I'm a former third gen RX-7 owner and super modaholic when it came to that car. Imagine your Z with 600hp and 1000 fewer pounds to haul around. I'd get my hopes up with every rumor only to be let down time and time again. I think, maybe, I gave up. Last week. I kid but I don't give it any credence at this point and I moved on some time ago. It's a bad, bad experience. Hope the Z/G/Q guys don't have to go through the same thing.

I owned two Gen 1 RX-7's back in the day.

Frankly, if the RX-7 ever came back as real sports car, not that three-door abomination we last saw, I wouldn't even be on a Nissan forum.

I loved those cars!

I dont ever see the Z being completely killed off. As long as Nissan is around theyll be a Z in the line up or in very near future line ups. The model is an icon, damn near level icon status of Mustangs in my opinion. Sure, Ford has NEVER had a Mustang hiatus ( I think) but oh my God, they did put out some awful, embarrassing vehicles. IMO no Z has EVER been embarrassing.

If they killed the Z it wouldn't be the first time.

I'm a former FD owner so I understand... clearly.

Nissan stopped selling the Z here in mid late 90's but it kept selling in Japan till the 350z debuted.
