I personally don't care if a Porsche is faster than my 2018 Z or even beats it on the track on paper.... if Nissan deliver a light weight Z with that VR30DTT and do what they do for handling etc it will be a winning combo.
And thats why Nissan is coming out with múltiple engines. The 4 cylinder 250-275HP entry level lightweight car. The 400HP top tier car. They'll have something for everybody

Exactly! It's not going to be on that level, it's not going to take away from GTR owners advantage, the numbers everyone keeps throwing around are not realistic. It's going to be a mid level sports coupe that will be the best option in its class (as the Z is now in my opinion).

Everyone keeps posting numbers and commenting on similarities that would put the Z in Cayman or Cayman S range. Weight and PEAK HP isn't everything, keyword being peak that everyone seems to leave out.

Right now the Z is competitive with a base 981 Cayman 2.7L (275 crank hp), but significantly slower than a 981 Cayman S 3.4L (325 crank), even though its right in the middle in terms of weight to power

Peak HP and weight are components, but it's not going to put Nissan in a straight line competition with a GT4, let alone an S model Cayman. Not to mention figure 8 and other handling performance.

See comparison below for the hypothetical Z, assuming a straight percent change from weight ratio to 0-60 time(which isnt realistic) and drastic weight reduction (which also isn't realistic with the front engine setup). All other numbers based on car and driver best times, not manufacturer websites.

Attachment 115949

You do bring up some good points. A car isnt about the weight and hp alone. I did say it would be a competitor for the gt4 and by numbers alone (power/weight). Not by handling or even by 0-60. I based this off the fact that you can pick two out of the three: power, light, or cheap. What I'm saying is I dont see the 400hp "cheap" car being to light. (Its got to be at least 3300...)

Also id argue you cant put 0-60 times the way you did it. 0-60 these days will highly depend on tranny and in some cases a launch control or active suspension controlling weight. Even if the z had a better power/weight id put my money on the fancy cars. That double clutch ATM alone will save 0.25 secs easily. (Just pulled a number out my *** just so you know).

IMO, like I and many have stated a few times about a Z35. To keep costs down it will probably share a chassis, the engine is already there, multiple options in fact. Assuming a Z35 IS made, itll have the 3.0 Turbo making the stated 400HP (at least), and itll be 3300 pounds in all reality (minimum). No carbon fibre, no exotic weight saving stuff. And thats fine. Its not gonna be an $80K car, its going to be low $40's at most and $30K to get you on the road. Tooling, material...its already there.

I was just detailing it as an example that power/weight is a small factor. The Porsche dual clutch (PDK) is out of this world and does have launch control (i've had one for a month as of today but haven't launched). Takes 0.3 secs off at minimum (manufacturer rating), so good guess.

Spot on. I expect mid 30s base msrp for the 3.0TT though. If they do make a weaker engine version it will be in the 20s to compete the the BRZ etc.

I've driven electric steering units.... THEY ALL SUCK!!! Nothing beats hydraulic except old school rack n pinion. A good electric steering is just good at giving no feedback. Feedback on the steering wheel is everything. You make better transitions with feedback. No question about that.

The Z34 benchmark was the 2008 Porsche Cayman when they came down to the final ecu stock tuning. So the Cayman of today is the predictive benchmark of the upcoming Z. When the Z came out. It was the to a Cayman on certain tracks

You guys need to go back about two weeks and read my posts. Juke news is where you will find Z news....
The new Juke is being built on the new CMF-B chassis. If that is too technical for some of you. It's the GRIP Z chassis.
That is also the same chassis I posted on about a week ago when I stated that Nissan was going to use a MODULAR CHASSIS, capable of multi drivetrain usage for a range of vehicles. My guess the Grip Z looked as it did was because it was showing the marriage between the Z and Juke in the next generation. Which only makes sense considering this generation they went all out on Juke Nismo's. They are getting more performance oriented. This gen I'm expecting big things for the Juke.

Now being that the chassis is modular I'm 99.9% right that this chassis will be shared with the Z.

By the way. A grip z, 1.6 turbo engine, fully equipped, 5 passengers, all wheel drive and automatic transmission is 2,550lbs.

So 3,300 lb Z is NOT HAPPENING. it will lose between 200-300lbs easy. I expect a production Juke to be 100lbs lighter than the outgoing model in full production guise. So about 2,700lbs. I expect a 4 cylinder RWD Z to weigh the same as an AWD juke. Only because the chassis will be much more rigid.

Also remember the weight of AWD, That's the offset in the situation. So it makes it more than possible.

Classier, smarter new Nissan Juke coming in 2017 | Auto Express

Oh and the Z has carbon fiber now!!!! What makes u think we gonna go backwards? I expect more carbon fiber. I know we'll continue to use a carbon fiber drive shaft and radiator housing for sure. We aren't losing that. I think your speculation is pretty empty.

Default Z35

If Nissan comes out with a 4 cylinder Z producing around 400 HP for 60K look for this car to flop and do horrible in sales. That amount of HP is just not enough unless they are trying to compete with the civic and corolla. I hope Nissan can come to there senses and become competitive for us Nissan Z enthusiast so we can have an answer for the mustangs and chargers of the world. Nissan has to make a statement and drops a lighter 3.0 twin turbo 580hp rear wheel drive monster to keep up with today's sports cars. A twin turbo 580 HP rear wheel drive Z has a nice ring to it doesn't it.

Unknown, if the Z can really drop 200 lbs and have that 400hp tt engine and not be too expensive, i will be very pleasantly surprised
