Throttle house makes great vids. Some good local Toronto car content.
Love both of those channels. Its funny to me how differing of the reviews have been for the new Z. Seems like the more I watch reviews - the more I come away with 'I'm not sure if this is the next car I want'. It seems like rumors are very true - the Z is more of a GT car and less of a sports car. Who knows - maybe 3-4yrs down the road - I might think differently once the modding begins and we see what people are doing with this car - but in its current state - I just think its a pass for me (sad bc I really really wanted to like this car - and in some ways I DO like this car).
Anyway - just one more opinion on the 'interwebz'.

it would be great if new Z owners had access to essentially the entire SPL catalog off the bat

All coilover options carrying over would be great - all they'd need to do is tweak the rates to accomodate the heavier front end

SavageGeese's video highlighting the new external clutch slave, clutch based diff, improved steering feel despite EPS, and improved cooling make me feel better about the car

I'd re-evaluate upgrading in a few years, after we see the Nismo, since i wouldn't need to re-buy all the suspension stuff

makes sense, it's a sidegrade not an upgrade IMO

It's weird that not many reviewers compare the car to a 370z.
I guess it may not put it in the best light when you say it's every bit the same as a 370z with a turbo 3 litre but costs almost twice as much.

The supra was/is the better car vs a 370z, and it remains the better car vs the new Z.
Not much you can really do when working on the same super old platform I guess.
But what made the 370z so good was the value for money that you get.
That's basically gone with the new car.
At the end of the day, even with mods, this car will never do anything better than a 370z.
So for all 370z owners I think it's a waste of time even thinking about this car as a replacement.
Unless you must have the factory turbo engine (vs much larger displacement engine + aftermarket turbos)
OR you must have the new looks. (Imo the 370z is the better looking car anyway.)

I don't think i would even fit in the Supra

i already need more headroom in the Z

factory turbo thats smog legal is the main reason
rear end looks better on the new Z than the Z34 (Subjective)
clutch diff + cooling , although some of that will inevitably need upgrades

but i wouldn't pay 50k for it

if the Nismo looks rad, i'll consider

my Z34 has fewer than 50k miles

Open deck v6 vs a I6 that has a closed deck? That's what we call a no brainer in the tuning world. Why on earth would I spend $50k for a weaker platform. When I can get a much much MUCH Stronger platform for a few k more?

Tired of the open deck weak sauce Nissan has been giving us for the last 2 decades. Seriously, this is why we have to spend damn near 6 figures to be able to compete with cars that have spent not even half that much. It's very very frustrating when I think about all the damn limitations the Z has to overcome to be able to compete properly mod for mod.

I want to love the new Z but fundamentals just keep getting in the way of that happening.

Yeah this is exactly it.
Not only is the engine way better.
It's lighter, stiffer, and handles better than a 370z (making it WAY lighter than the chunky new 2023 z)
You can get a clean single owner 370z for 34k(cad), but a new supra is closer to 100k cad after all taxes and fees etc. So it's hard sell to upgrade, but if you're going to upgrade, do it to the Supra and not a sidegrade to the 2023 Z, imho.

The last several reviews of the 370z by Savage Geese have been pretty brutal - the one I remember is him not even reviewing it but having his cohost do the review (bc the platform is so old).

So I was honestly expecting him to trash the new Z - especially after some of the more brutal reviews of the new Z. Instead he really liked it especially compared to the Supra. It was definitely interesting and kinda gives credit to what you are saying - do some fixes to the suspension and you have a really good daily that you can take to the track if you want to.

I'm sure everyone saw the video where they tested the Z to the Supra and did a quick couple of laps in the GT86 as well to compare all three cars - and in this vid - Savage Geese winded up putting on the same tires for both the Supra and the Z and tires make a difference - not enough if you are chasing numbers.

Nothing he said about the z34 was inaccurate tho - it is an ancient platform that needs modification to be competent

They acknowledge it’s simplicity, rwd, and 6-spd manual are nice to still have, but I too would never advise someone to pay new car prices for one

It’s simply a much better used car option bc of its weaknesses

That was horrible advice if you listened to any of these guys. Because I brought my 2020 brand new for $28000 CAD (which works out to $21600 USD), which is FAR less than the price of a used one now.

Now in today's post-rona market, go find me anywhere I can buy a brand new V6 sports car for less than $30k CAD.

You got a brand new 2020 370Z for $21600 USD? That's FAR less than the price of a new one at the time. Not sure how you accomplished that but it's incomparable to normal pricing.

You got a brand new car for a used car price. I don't believe I EVER saw Nissan selling 'Sport Editions' for less than $26-27k in the US. Heck -I thought I got a 'steal of a deal' for getting a 1yr old 4500mi Nismo for about $32k when the Nismo's I were seeing being offered at over $40k easy. If I was shopping for a Z and a price of $22k for a sport came up - that would be hard to pass up - congrats on a good deal.

Overall with the platform being as old as it is - I think the general consensus is that there are a lot of low priced low mileage options so one doesn't have to take the 'new car hit' when looking for a Z.

excellent comparison.... Another important factor for the car buyers is the look of the car. I personally was more exciting seeing the new Supra and 370Z than the new Z initially. I like the new Z interior, but not sure about the exterior. Perhaps it will grow on me in time.
