The reason is simple I can almost guarantee I will be able to make one on my existing 370z much cheaper than I can buy one. The chassis is the same basically so if I wanted I should be able to take the body panels off the 400z and put them on the 370z (or someone will make a body kit) I can already drop a vr30 in the 370z for cheap (those motors are not expensive) and I enjoy the physical guages more than the digital ones in the interior. Add in the cost increase we will see and I bet I could do it a good bit cheaper than buying a new one and selling my old one.

Edit: So taking the Maxima price increase it got for 2009 to 2021 model it's a 7k increase for the base model. I expect the same or more for the Z which in my opinion isn't going to fly with consumers.

"Leaks" are saying that the car will start under $40k. Under $40k for a sports car with a likely 400hp and updated tech is a damn good deal. I can't imagine anyone complaining about that absolute bargain compared to the Supra.

Under 40k means $39,998.

I like what I'm seeing. I wonder how the monthly lease rates will look.

Also noticed that body pillars and roof line are body color instead of black. And the car is in LA right now as he said.

He calls it "400Z" but I don't see any emblems or badging anywhere to confirm that.

I know I've read tons of comments on other sites of people saying they won't spend 40k+ on a low-mid trim level Nissan. I don't think it's so much the price to performance that's the problem but rather peoples perceptions of spending 40k on a Nissan. Nissan really damaged they reputation when they had issues with their transmission, started basically signing payment plans to anyone who walked through the door, and started trying to cheap out on their cars. I know lots of people that used to buy Nissan cars but won't touch them with a 10ft poll anymore everyone says they felt cheap to them. I really like my 370Z but lets be real here the 370z didn't sell that many especially compared to the 350z. And not even enough to have Nissan consider refreshing it for a decade. Those sales numbers for the 370z especially the last few years are no where near enough to make Nissan consider selling another one if this one sells the same. And no one can say sports cars can't sell in large amount just look at the C8 it's selling faster than any other car in the lot. Heck the Supra which everyone claims doesn't sell well outsold the 370z 3:1

O good more chip delays looks like a fire at one of the chip manufactures for Nissan https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-56486242

Finally some better colors. I want the gunmetal with the black roof. Like the spoiler on the back as well. Hope the carbon fiber diffuser from the proto is a option to add. Overall, loving it.

Ford is building F150's with no computers in them. They are letting them sit until they can get the computers. :icon14:

Man 1/4, you seem really conflicted here! 1st you are gonna just do a panel swap (good luck with rear end and 1/4's). Then lament the "quality issues" of Nissan. But, obviously you do like this car enough to pay attention to chip shortages! (BTW, please don't think I am picking on you, I can tell you actually secretly like the car)

I predict the 300Z Twin Turbo (400Z) will sell more than the 370Z. I've been a Z guy for a long time, and I have tolerated Nissan QC issues for a LONG time also! I've owned my Titan forever and love it, have had Z31, Z32, S12 V6's, Maximas, QX4, Q60, etc. I quickly dismissed the 350Z as too "plasticky" with way too much Renault vibes going on, and I also considered the 370Z as somewhat ugly....and I was also resenting that Nissan wasn't building Twin Turbos anymore.
Well, here we are. I am DEFINITELY buying a 300Z Twin Turbo.
There isn't anything wrong with the Z34 chassis (to me, IMO). It was ugly and un-boosted, now it is way less ugly, Twin-Turbo'ed and called Z35 (probably).

I feel the price will be OK. The new TLX-S (another car I am mulling...my other Japanese car love was the Vigor and Legends) is going to be "low-50's" according to Acura. True, it'll be AWD and 4 door, it's more of a Q50 AWD 300HP killer. The upcoming IS500 (another car I really really like....reliability!) will be in the 60's supposedly.
If a 400+HP 300Z Twin Turbo is what we get at low $40's, for a low-volume, twin turbo, 2 seater heritage car, I am totally happy. I feel it is a fair price.
The power, if 400HP+, will be outstanding, the interior is WAYYYYY better than the 370Z (I do agree with you on the instrument cluster, I too would prefer real gauges over LCD) and the car is really very basic for a 2022 vehicle. It still has a hand brake, even with the auto. I think even the CTR has an EPB.
Nissan has made GREAT improvements in the interior quality lately, now that Ghosn is gone I think the cheapness at Nissan is gone too.

I will do whatever it takes to get one of these cars without ADM.

I don't think your picking on me at all. I'm honestly just being slightly harsh on the car. Mainly because I was hoping we would get something more than just a heavy refresh (although I knew it wouldn't happen with Nissans financial issues). I think for new people looking to get into this will be good if Nissans quality has really come up and there are enough dealerships not going bankrupt to take on inventory for people to get hands on time with. However for people with existing cars in some ways this is cool because our cars aren't obsolete. Instead we can buy a vr30 motor drop it in and get the same performance as the new Z or we can go full turbo and make a 1500+hp monster like SOHO is doing. I want the new Z to succeed but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't worried about Nissans future especially with covid-19 and chip shortages. I'm definitely going to try and take a test drive in one for sure but I'd probably put that cash towards a full turbo system. The 370z still looks so amazing even after 10 years on the road and I hope the already slightly polarizing body style on the 400z makes just as much of an impression.

New pics look amazing. Well done Nissan.

badges are all covered in his pics and videos.

also, i like the little lip spoiler actually makes the rear look better than without one.

i noticed it doesnt have GTR brakes on this model. makes me wonder if they were for show or a special higher trim level like the Nismo.

steering wheel looks really weird like the top half is way to large of an opening.

This looks like a lower trim to me. I am thinking this is the base model and I have a feeling it will have lower HP. I'm thinking 350~375hp for the base and the price will be right under 40k like $39,995 the sport .model will get a hp increase to ~400hp with gtr brakes and other stuff for $43k~ Nismo version will be 450hp for right under $50k but that's just my guess.

Houston Z33 03-23-2021 08:45 AM

Kinda shocked these popped up in LA, I heard Job #1 wasn't until 01/03/22 with ordering to open up 08/15/21.

Base MSRP will be $34,999

Base gets Akebonos, Sport/Nismo gets Brembos - No more floating calipers.

All cars get the 400hp Flavor of VR30

US Name = Nissan Z, no numbers this time

Dry Weight = 3,252lbs

Tech wise we're pretty damned outdated as well - Case in point....To this day we still need the Nav Package to stream BT Audio while the current Altima can stream it with no problem, without nav....My Wife's '15 Sonata Limited is mind blowing. The car damned near drives itself and it starts at 20k is about 30k fully dolled up like hers is.

Also, Hyundai BlueLink is BAD. ***. I really hope Nissan steps it's game up and adds something like this to it's lineup.

Power wise if we don't have 400+ HP, We're a failure - No questions asked....the V8s are kissing 450hp out the box nowadays.

IMO the 370Z was damned near perfect, it just needed more power.

Looks like I got what I asked for 6 years ago lol
