[OFFICIAL] Discussion for the next new Nissan 400Z Z35?

That video is awesome, but, do you guys also get the lines through when they move the camera? Frustrating.

Yeah, I thought it was scaling aberrations, so I tried different resolutions, but it seems to be on their end.

BTW, how's that wheelbase compare to the current 370Z? They got admonished for checking the wheelbase!

Yeah unfortunately it looks like it's some issues with the video.

Paused at 4:15 and it looks like it's right on 255cm = 100.4" which is exactly the same as the 370Z.
The exhaust looks exactly the same as well, just different tips. So, most likely any current aftermarket catback exhausts will probably bolt right onto the next Z.

Wow, same rear strut bar. Same tonneau cover lol. I think all the trunk interior trim panels are all the same.

I agree, but sadly it won't be a 30k base brice like the existing car, more like 40-45k base. At that price, if you offered them to me both side-by-side, bang for the buck, I'd rather buy the existing car.

Base price of the Q60 is $41.3K.

Mandatory leather, 7AT, rear seats, dual screen infotainment, Infiniti tax, etc.

I think new base price will be under $35K.

Hey, we live in a world of $80K half-ton trucks and $50K Wranglers.

I don't see a 2-seat, twin-turbo, limited appeal sporty car at $35K being a bad "bang-for-the-buck". As for me, I am tired of having a low-torque high revving NA V6.
Can't wait to drive a TT Z when it comes out!

I posted this in the engine sub-forum:

Test drove a 2020 Q60, I prefer the sound of the VQ37

So yesterday, my wife and I test drove a 2020 Passion Red Infiniti Q60. I did this because I wanted a sneak preview of the new Z's engine, as it's already available today in the current Infiniti lineup. What better way to do it than in a two-door Infiniti finished in the same colour as my 2020 Z.

I don't want to get into things like handling here, because the Q60 will not be the Z. I just want to talk about straight line engine performance as that is what most directly qualifies as being a sneak preview to the new Z.

Is it faster, yes. Is it aurally more enjoyable to drive. NO.

Yes you can chalk some of it up to the Q60s automatic transmission versus the excellent 6-speed in my current car.

But man, the whirring sounds of the VQ37 are what make it the best sounding and most enjoyable V6 on the planet. Sadly, the twin-turbo 3.0 lacks all of that character and makes me really wish Nissan would continue offering the current VQ37 in the new Z as a lower priced base trim level to keep the base entry level price down. I would take a VQ37 trim level, not because it's cheaper, but because of the aural experience. The only way to beat the sensory experience of the VQ is with a V8 or higher.

Numbers on an Excel spreadsheet is not what gives us enjoyment; rather its how a car arouses our senses. Automatic is faster than manual. The 3.0TT is faster than the VQ37. But I'd take the slightly slower, more sensual option any day of the week.

Nissan: OK, we take more. No more fins on diff, no more BBK, carbon fiber trim? - you pay extra, we also make available base model non-turbo. You like?

I wish for a non-turbo base model. The current VQ37 sounds way better than the 3.0TT.

I think it's clear from the interior that the proto is literally a modified 370z, no surprises there. The changes really appear to be the exterior body and new engine at this point. Hopefully more will change with the production model. Although, honestly I love the 370z's handling. I wouldn't mind improvements on that without the need for drastic changes.

Diff has passive cooling fins, which is great! Also it looks like some sort of airbag or adjustable active suspension.

Rear subframe and control arms look same as 370z.

Yeah it looks like an active suspension probably straight off the q50/q50 not excited for that. That is one step closer to their entire active suspension/ drive by wire crap system. Nissan please don't add that stuff and ruin the car I'm begging you!

I wonder how hard it would be to put a 400Z steering wheel in a 370Z. LOL

Likely not hard at all. But I would start with the shift knob.
