True, but JDM still has the RB26 and 2JZ on their side. Those engines will make any v8 worried.

Just about any 2 Liter+ engine out now has good performance capabilities...if you tune it right. You can slap a turbo on almost anything nowadays and the right tune and get 600+hp. There is nothing special about the RB or 2J motor that's worth bragging about. They're cheapo cast iron blocks with turbos strapped to them....End of story. |

They are easily capable of 1000+ hp reliably because their cast iron block. They are still remarkable engines, not to even mention the natural balance of an I6. |

Inquiring minds have to know ...... with the proposed 2021 Nismo generating 475hp, why does anyone need more? You're pretty darn close to Corvette territory which weighs as much as a Nismo! The Stangs & Chevys weigh more than a 1000lbs more than the Nissan (Power-to-weight guys). A tricked out stock ZL1 Camero's sticker will run you into the mid $60K before taxes and I can't imagine how much insurance will set you back. I have issues with the "more hp is better" crowd. I spoke with a guy that has a Hellcat and says it's a fun car UNLESS you're on cold tires or in the rain. Meaning that you can find yourself in a hell of a situation and in the ditch if you're not completely focused.
Just my two cents fellas. 475hp is plenty for my fast cornering manners. Figtuna |

Some people like cars that scare them to death.

Yeap, you left one part off. When it doesn't scare them anymore, time for more power. Why do you think guys start at 500hp, then 600hp, then 800hp, the 1000hp. To me, my car is slow as a snail. Looks great, but slowwww. It's all about what you are use to.

I used to rebuild my bike every winter.First ride in spring the thing had so much horespower that it would scare you to death.By late fall I was thinking of ways to get a little more Horespower. The same thing with cars.If my Z is not a handful to drive I'm not interested.First thing I did with the Z was put twin turbos on it.

As for the ZL1, you can get one at 62k pre tax if you shop around. And why bring up insurance? If you can buy a 60k car I imagine car insurance, gas, tires, etc are all something you can afford to go with it. That being said, the ZL1 is by far the best bang for the buck under 75k. Any decent sports car will be dangerous on cold tired or rain. Anyone who doesn't take caution in those scenarios is asking for problems. My 370z and 370z nismo didn't like either very much. Obviously with more power comes more caution. But I'll agree with you. 475hp is more than enough to have fun in a decent weight car. The problem becomes when a company fails to make a car competitive and then the car ends up scraped or like the current Z, forgotten. Either drop the performance, weight, price of the Z to compete in a different segment or step up and compete with the big boys. Don't try to do in between. Also sometimes it comes down to performance per dollar. For example, I was set to buy a new grand sport, but why pay 68-70k for one when I can get a better performance car for cheaper in a ZL1. But when I went in to buy the ZL1 I opted for a left over 17 Z06 at discount. Do I need or even want 650hp? No, not really. But I bought because my other option would be to spend the same money for a lower performing car. That's what I don't want to happen to the next gen Z. They need to position the car to be the bang for the buck in its segment.

I would like to see Nissan surprise us and roll out a 650Hp car. Also I have driven a Tesla p100.Fastest accelerating car I have evere driven. This is the future and price will come down. All companies will be into this. I just hope in 10 years my modified Z is not blown away by soccer Mom in electric SUV that does sub 3 0 to 60. Wish Nissan the best in successor to 370Z. Last edited by Baronsmokes; 03-24-2018 at 10:54 PM. Reason: spelling |

A Z06 Corvette. Yeah, I could have gotten one of those for $114,000. A special one like the ZR1 was going to be $145,000. So, I'll just stick with my current special Nismo and install twin turbos with a built motor. I couldn't even get my hands on a ZR1, so it was off the list quick. GTR, forget it. Wrong crowd and totally wrong following. Whatever, I'll just do my own thing like I have always done. If folks like it, great. If not, no big tado to me. Would I own a Cowmaro. Heck no, they are on every street corner like the Rustangs now.

ZR1 no(not priced against 370Z but world beater for price) but used Z06 at good prices.Nissan has GTR at high price. The point I was trying to make that these USA cars are well priced for performance if that is all you are looking at.Can compete against anything in world. Notice I did not mention Mustangs. Nissan needs to decide where they want to go with Z. Again I like the look of the 370Z.I support the 370Z not a hater. I have owned multiple sports cars and I'm trying to look at this objectively. The 370Z is not a common car.(common car insert Mustang)I have 31k into my motor and tranny.Would be nice to have factory car that I did not have to modify so heavely. |

Reliability is in the hands of the owner and tuner. I can make a normal engine with low power unreliable real quick with the wrong tune and fuel. |
