I'm sure they wish they would sell more so it could be a priority BUT when you make a 2 seater, RWD sports car 98% of the population WONT buy it.
Being a niche car its not going to sell a lot. The GTR is their priority even though it sells less than most cars on the market under 250k. I hate to say it but if they made a 2x2 vs 2 seater they would sell more... I would be ok with a 2x2 and just yank the rear seats out when I get it...

The platforms of the MX5 and BRZ are fantastic and with some modifications can be made to be a great auto cross car but basically are really weak. I drove a 2015 mustang GT and Ecoboost and the ecoboost was not great out of the box but had some potential with mods. THe GT was a blast to drive BUT personally lacked a good bit to me in the exterior. Its cheaper than the Z and faster in a straight line but in the South where I live currently its a dime a dozen. The BRZ and Miata are either 21 year olds driving it or a woman... So to me those are not comparable options even saving cash

1st: Thank you for using the word 'THAN' in your third sentence. 2nd: Per Good Car Bad Car, the 2017 ytd sales figures for the Z in the US indicate sales are running ~ 2/3 of 2016's sales. I guess this could spur them to speed up the development of the next Z, or be justification to drop the model altogether in a few years. Time will tell. |

Who wants to host a viewing party for Tokyo Auto Show if they have a livestream? I'll fly out, bring popcorn, and a box of tissues. 'Cause we're either gonna be sobbing or jizzing.
But in all seriousness, this show will determine whether I wait for next gen (if there is one) or get another 370. Since being totaled in Jan, mine has left a huge hole in my heart and I've only held off in the hopes of maybe being one of the first to buy into the next generation. Sorry to re-bump this mostly depressing thread, but personally, I'm counting the days to Tokyo. |

No one is paying 40k for a Z nowadays, maybe a Nismo and if you are im sorry but you are getting fleeced. I wouldnt pay 15k more but when you consider the fact that you can get a lightly used Z with a sports package for as much or even less than a new MX5/BRZ the Z starts looking like a gem.

Leasing or financing, you are spending well over 100 dollars a month more. I'm not sure i'd want to buy any new car outright nowadays. It goes back to who actually wants these cars two? Mature family people with a bit of disposable income? OR teenagers and college kids that have a tight budget? Are the later even responsible enough to have the extra power(debatable irrelevant fact). In both cases the cheaper car makes sense. I wouldn't buy my child a 370z compared to a mx5 or brzfrs86 on both facets of cost and increased power, plus its less practical on all fronts. The other question is how long do people want to keep cars nowadays? How many people here still own a 09 model and are looking to trade or at least get something newer? There has been no major upgrades on this chassis to justify just buying a newer model. A new engine would be enticing even if the chassis is the same. Is a 4 cylinder sacrilege? Bigger question is should Nissan make an s15 successor if they are not gonna appease the Z crowd? |

And just to add: the recaro seats are amazing. That's something you can't do (easily or inexpensively) w/o compromising safety and losing airbags. To me, the seats are one of the biggest selling factors. Is it worth the 10k+....well there are already several threads on this, but it all comes down to worth being in the beholder's eyes and whether or not the person wants to mod. Pretty simple if you ask me. Last edited by babyzilla; 09-29-2017 at 09:14 AM. |
