Yes, I've been looking forward to owning a Nissan Z.

For one thing, it'll save me having to say, "Well, actually, it's a 370Z. The 350Z was the previous model, which had a slightly smaller engine. You see, the numbers signify..... blah blah blah blah blah yawn".

At last, we have information that seems to be informed. I wouldn't necessarily believe all of it and there is clearly information missing (eg., will it be RWD and will there be a manual option and has the rumoured puny 4-cylinder option gone?), but in less than 40 weeks there will be an unveiling of of the 370's successor. Wow!

...and please don't believe the 'artist's impression' rendering from BestCar magazine. Like all pre-concept attempts, it's a horrible mish-mash of bits from here, there and everywhere. Be patient, wait & see

Smart move to assess when firm data is out about a new Z. I could see the company simply calling it.....The Z. The car has a unique heritage and it will be interesting to see what Nissan create now.

There have been a couple of mentions of the stalk like "mirrors" on the concept.

Those are stalks to hold cameras that we can view on our screen. Our Civic Si has one on the right (under a conventional mirror). It's really great, but sorta hard to use at night, lots of glare.

Have seen this on several concept cars.

It doesn't. The RS has 400hp, relatively soft suspension, ZERO steering feel, zero exhaust noise and no LSD. I test drove one and it was a pretty meh moment. The engine was nice but it wasn't drool inducing. The car just had zero edge/excitement to it.

A 2016 model 370z costs $60000 in Australia now. 5 years ago the price was $65000. We only get the top of the range model here.

I spoke to my local Nissan dealer and a salesman said Nissan will stop making Z cars.

A Nissan salesman said they're won't be a new model? That settles it - there definitely WILL be one, in that case. The rumour is confirmed!

2 transmission options? Sorry, Nissan doesn't sell enough of these to offer that, nor do they make enough money on these to offer that. Yes, I know there's the AT and MT now, but something tells me what you're asking for is cost prohibitive yet again.

The DCTs in Nissan's lineup? Which ones are those? Don't include the GT-R (since the GT-Rs GR6 transmission just won't port over to any other platform Nissan builds). Oh you mean Infiniti? The DCTs that Mercedes builds and provides that are mated to the 2.0L turbo motors also built and provided by Mercedes? Those are supposed to magically mate to some 450hp twin turbo V6 in the sky that Nissan is holding out on for the next gen Z? And handle the torque output? And be lighter than the trans assemblies in the current 370Z?

And that's a terrible argument. Compared to the Z, your Evo with DCT is still way behind in the sports car market, so it's not even a good comparison. If your DCT (or any other for that matter) just swapped straight into the Z, then sure, there's no excuses for Nissan not to offer one as an option. Except that's not the case. The R&D to create a new DCT (or even a shared DCT) that works in the Z absolutely is not worth it with such low sales figures.

Best case is they develop a DCT to work in another, more marketable vehicle category to help with costs and it works with the new Z platform. Another option might be to design the new Z platform to work with an existing, earlier generation DCT. And yet another option is they change the target price point for the Z to accommodate any and all upgrades, in which case everything is pretty much up in the air as they could go in a number of directions with it. Bottom line is most people think a DCT in the new Z is doubtful, and your argument that it should be is wishful thinking. I don't think you'll find anyone here who thinks a DCT in the Z is a terrible powertrain option.
lol

Be careful when strongly stating opinions as fact, talking as though you're in the know, or speaking in absolute.

It's true, but these guys have well thought-out opinions and I think they are making pretty factually based opinions based on the FM platform and what is availed to that chassis. The probability in what they state is 99%....

HOWEVER....

Nissan stated in 2013 the Z would possibly built on a new MODULAR chassis that would be able to be modified or all drive trains, RWD, FWD & AWD. Which common sense would say, that's why the Grip Z was a mish mash concept of sports car and crossover. In a early 2016 article it was stated that the Nissan juke would be the first car in a 5 car series on this NEW MODULAR PLATFORM.

If in fact the new Z will be the second car to be built on this modular platform? Then in fact all speculation is null and void till we can at least get some feedback on chassis specs from the new platform.

I think it's very possible we get the Benz MCT in the AMG's for our Z? I think DCT is very possible if in fact we get that new chassis for our Z's. Which I think is MOST PROBABLE.

If that's the case... all these very logical guesstimations and speculations will be dispelled.

Remember this post.

Be careful selecting posts, taking them completely out of context, and using them to try to make a halfwit point.

MT and AT for the base and sport is my guess, while the hybrid one is AT only
