Similar to how McLaren did it with their 720s.
That hp figure is at the crank and again i assume u know this.
I'm not saying they didnt make any changes, but definitely not a 50hp bump for the 2020 model.
Maybe 10hp bump or something and making little changes here and there.

notice the gap in the middle of the 12 cars in the videos........that's where "g" would have landed :stirthepot:

the point of that whole video was to hype the Z. why would the tease the new GTR as well? it would totally overshadow the Z in this.

i think it's also coming but will get it's own video teaser.

I'm fond of saying the 370Z is like a poor man's front engine Porsche.

This new 400Z at first glance reminds me of a poor man's Aston Martin.

Exactly what I was hoping for and expecting to be honest. They are simply updating the Z34 chassis. Nissan is not going to spend truckloads of money on developing an all-new chassis when they are struggling now. Throw in the Q60 Red Sport motor with 400hp with a manual trans, update the interior and tech, and bingo! I love how it is clean and doesn't look like it was designed by a 12-year old like the Supra. The rear taillights are supposedly inspired by the 300ZX. Bravo! (I'm a former 300ZX owner and current 370Z owner). Will be made in Japan and likely less expensive than the BMW Supra.

From what is shown so far, it certainly looks like what you are saying. Like the entire underneath could be the exact same as the current Z. Change the engine out, bolt on new body panels, put in a new interior, and they are good to go.

People are clamoring about the tranny. I get that. But what I'm concerned with is the steering. I like my old heavy feel hydraulic system. I'm not fond of new electronic systems. Sure they can have various settings etc, but the settings never seem to get it right. Add to it that some companies lump the steering setting in with tranny and engine settings (all in one sport setting) and it's not my thing at all. I'm really hoping they get the steering right, as steering feel and handling are my favorite parts of my 370Z.

It's just a Z now. There is an article with an interview with nissan that said they would likely drop the displacement out of the name. It was posted in here about 3 to 4 years back if your shovel is sharp enough.

It doesn’t matter whether Toyota underrated or not. Back to back dyno testing of a 2020 and a 2021 verified the difference.

https://www.caranddriver.com/reviews...a-dyno-tested/

“First up: the 2020 Supra. Even with the power-sapping driveline losses of the transmission and rear axle in play, the dyno recorded 346 horsepower and 409 lb-ft of torque.”

“After a few runs on the dyno, the 2021 engine put down 388 horsepower and 421 lb-ft at the wheels. Remove the driveline losses, and the engine appears to be capable of 400 horsepower at the crank.”

Why is this quote here, this is the Z35 thread?

ped 05-31-2020 10:45 AM

Because the Supra was mentioned and facts about it were cited and denied, requiring evidence? Are you new to the internet?

No, are you new to the internet?? We are excited that Nissan announced the new Z. No need to continue with an old Supra discussion. :gtfo2:

OptionZero 05-31-2020 11:17 AM

No, someone else said there was no power increase. This post just provided proof at is inaccurate, Dyno testing proved there was

The Supra is also a relevant comparison

Relax. There isn’t any new news beyond the initial teaser anyway

This tread is over 5 yrs old. You get tired of seeing the same thing posted over and over by people who have no clue on what was Nissan was planning. So you get a negative mind set to what's posted after a while. Even some of the newer articles are wrong. Everything was speculation until now. Include yourself in being wrong too.

OptionZero 05-31-2020 07:40 PM

Frankly, everything is speculation now. We have . . a silhouette. Thats it.

The first time, 2.5 years ago, I was wrong, because I believed BestCar magazine - I admit it (as I already have, as you know).

The second time (this time) I was completely correct, just a bit early, but I actually knew it was coming, so don't just be negative about me - it's shades of grey - and at least I have the balls to admit it when I'm wrong, unlike some people.

Edit: I tried to tell you, but just got a lot of abuse lol. But hey, it doesn't matter - what matters is 400 horses.

15 months, to be accurate.

One thing I failed to notice until now, is that I don't see a large distinctive door handle in this video or pics. I wonder if they are dropping that look or it just didn't make it to this pre-production teaser model? More speculation.

JARblue 06-01-2020 11:54 AM

Apparently the commercial was a hoax. The dealer just refunded the deposit I put down several years ago for the new Z :(

Thank you chubbs! I know you had some inside knowledge and tried to give us some snippets without giving away your source so thank you for that.

We can all agree that it’s good to be a Z car fan now that we have official confirmation that a new car is on the way. The past 6 years have been frustrating for sure. Cheers.

No door handles? What kind of sorcery is that? Some kind of 'stick your finger in the hole and the door will open'? Wave the remote at it chanting 'I love Nissan'? Press the button on the remote and the door flies open? What about us poor saps that have fat fingers, no fingers, can't chant or fall out of the car when the door flies open on the freeway?......:confused::confused:

Im late to the party but got the news. Just like i told yall. Youll be able to order your Z this October. Watch. Its exciting but, i hope theres more lines on the Z that shows on the teaser. While im happy it resembles the 240z and 300zx combined. Im hoping it'll have some pronounced angles like its big sister. The Q60!!

zguynate 06-02-2020 12:26 AM

As far as the door handles go, I’m assuming that the Z we saw in the commercial is more in concept mode than production. I feel like we will def see it in concept form first before we see it as a production unit.
