Getting the red sport 3.0 twin turbo but using the Infiniti tranny is a recipe for disaster. The tranny to refine for the z. This got me thinking till I realized the 2021 pathfinder is ditching the cvt and getting a 9 speed. That would be a nice combo. What does everyone think

The manual 6-speed may be the same as in the present 370Z. Nothing wrong with it with a few upgrades. The automatic will definitely be upgraded to something more modern. It definitely will not be a CVT. Maybe Nissan will simply buy the tried and true ZF8 used in the new Supra, BMWs and many others.

Nissan is probably going to make this project as affordable as possible. Wouldn’t surprise me if the auto option was the Infiniti one.

I heard Nissan is planning to use the CVT from the 2012 Versa

Pretty sure it's the new 9 speed and is being worked on my nismo, which is why they said it's in development during the presentation and on the website.

This makes the most sense from a business perspective, so probably the most likely. That transmission may just come over virtually unchanged.

But we can always hope...

They wont, there is not a true CVT on the planet that can take that much torque.

Also, with the parallel input/output shaft designs of the CVT, it lends itself to a FWD configuration.

Obviously besides the already confirmed 6MT, Nissan could possibly extend their agreement with MB (Infiniti Qx30/MB GLA) and use MB's own 9speed auto (Designed by MB made by JATCO for Nissan/Infiniti Licenses). if that ends up happening, that would be incredible as the stock tuning of that 9speed is amazing compared to Nissan's 10+yr old JATCO 7SPeed that came out with the G37. Plus the 9Speed could sustain up to 516 ft/lb of Torque and would open doors for German tuners into the Japanese industry similarly how all the tech/development for the BMW B58 transitioned so easily to the new Supra.

9AT it is.
Nissan even put the 9AT into the old Frontier truck.

For the Q60 guys, I wonder if they'll get the 9AT AND the 6MT option?

The 7AT in my Q60 really needs to be retired. Sometimes it is a terrible transmission!

Well I'll do you one better: it should be a 9 speed manual.

Imagine how booty blasted the industry will be with Nissan showing up ahead of the curve. Porsche engineers squirming in their leather trousers. "How did Nissan raise the ruf?!?!?!?!"

I'd personally fly to Japan and slap the entire engineering and accounting team one by one telling them how they have all brought shame to their ancestors and the automobile community. I would then personally never buy a Nissan again and make the jump over to American Muscle.

Yeah Jatco has the 9-speed on their website and it's in the new Titan. I'm really curious how much abuse it's going to take realistically compared to the 7AT...

Not gonna happen. Nissan will not venture into any more agreements/arrangements with MB again. If you only knew how many tier’s of BULL go on with German engineering, especially with the qx30/ 2.0L Q50. The worst decision Nissan has made in hot minute!
