Default Another oil-sucking 2009 Z

I checked my dipstick the other day and was shocked to see how low I was on oil. Immediately I added 2 quarts to bring me back over the "low" line, and then I snooped around under the car to check the oil pan, filter, plug, etc... all bone dry. The oil was changed less than 5000 miles ago and IMO a car with less than 50k on the odometer shouldn't use 3 quarts in that distance.

So it seems I've got the dreaded oil consumption problem that I've been reading about on here, and I guess I shouldn't be too surprised since my car is an 09. I contacted the (Ford) dealership where I bought the car and a 2-year extended warranty, and they told me to take it to Nissan and proceed from there. This is going to be fun...

Thoughts? Advice? I have receipts from my oil change 5k miles ago as well as the 2 quarts of 5w30 synthetic I had to add.

are you sure the oil was full right after the oil change?

how long are u planning on keeping the car? might be just better to keep adding oil ever now and then.
i check oil weekly... not that i need to, i just do.

Hard to say exactly what the shop did, but I got charged for 5 quarts so I'm assuming it was full. I wasn't planning to get rid of the car at all; I get weirdly attached to things that way. Usually I'm much better at keeping up with things like oil levels but it's been tough lately with grad school and working full-time. Luckily I checked when I did.

I'd like it fixed if possible, preferably this winter while I'm running the Jeep anyway.

Oh man, sorry to hear that. This is an amazing car to drive when it's working properly, but an engine every 10k miles is insane.

I used to get $hit from people for driving a Mustang and riding a Ducati... Guess I can tell them where to stick their "Japanese reliability" now.

UPDATE: I took it to Nissan today and the service guy seemed really cool about it. They're going to run some type of cleaner through the engine, change the oil, then seal it up and make me come back in 500 mile intervals to plot how much it's burning.

Once Nissan gets done testing, make it a habit to check the oil at least once a week. More often if you live in the high rpm range of the tach. After the next full oil change, send a sample out for analysis to see if damage was done.

Yeah no kidding. Luckily I've got an extended warranty and proof of regular oil changes.
