Chirping sound when closing door?
Hey guys can anyone tell me if when you unlock the car and get in do you hear a high pitched chirping sound that lasts for about 5 seconds when you close the door? This has been happening for a couple months, and I have the car in for service at Nissan right now and they are telling me it is normal. They say it's a warning to let me know that the fob is in the car and it's designed so that you don't accidentally lock your keys in the car.
I think they're bullshitting me as it doesn't make any sense. If the chirp goes off when you close the door then you have already locked your key in the vehicle, rendering the warning useless. It also only happens when I get in the car and close the door before I start it, not when I shut it off and get out. I could be wrong though, so any insight from our oh so knowledgeable forum members would be much appreciated! |
Can you get a short video of it?
|
Man... There was a thread for this...
My car does it every once in a while. Only when I'm in a parking garage and I think when I'm starting the car actually |
I'm going to go pick it up from a the dealer in about an hour. I'll try to have a video up by this evening.

Off to get the car. :driving: |
So I tried to take a video of it a couple times, but the pitch of the chirp is high enough that my crappy cell phone doesn't pick it up very well. You can hear it in this clip at about the :45 mark, but you'll have to turn up your speakers a fair amount to hear it clearly.
Once again, thanks in advance guys. |
:wtf: That seems like it's the exact opposite of what it's supposed to do.
If I put the fob in the fobgina while I'm driving, I get the chirp only if I turn the car off and open the door without removing the fob. The only time it chirps like that is if I leave the car running and step more than a few feet away from the car with the fob in my pocket. Hopefully, the dealership isn't too far. I would go back and make them prove to you that another Z on their lot does it, too. I'm assuming the recent service was not related to this issue. |

I just called my brother and he says his Z doesn't do it either. The dealership is about a 40 minute ride due to traffic, so it's not crazy far but it's not right around the corner either. And honestly this isn't the end of the world but it is annoying....if I hadn't already been in for inspection, oil change, and 30,000 mile service I probably would have held off on fixing it until it was more convenient. OTOH now that I've had them check it out and know that it isn't right I'm determined to get it fixed. Maybe I'll just take an extra trip and head to a larger dealer. Fred Bean's Nissan isn't all that much further of a drive for me. |
Mine does that sometimes, but not as long as yours does
