Headliner issue?
TL;DR version:
1. check your headliner to see if it's ccoming apart at the edges 2. If you need to replace it make sure your Nissan service guy checks the condition of the headliner to ensure it's not damaged BEFORE you go in or prepare to have your time wasted. Hey Everyone, I don't know if anyone else has had this issue. I tried doing a search and didn't come up with anything so it might be an isolated incident but the service person at my Nissan dealership said that he's had a few Zs come in for it so I thought I'd bring it up. The headliner on my driverside isn't seated properly. The edge is poking up and I can feel the inside edge of the liner by reaching up and running my fingers along the edge of it. So far everything inside the cabin looks normal, you can't tell there's an error if you're sitting in the driver seat and just looking at it. And because of the angle of your view when you're standing outside the car you wouldn't be able to tell either. I never would have noticed if I didn't accidently rest my hand on it one day. The only way to get a good look at it is to crouch a little bit from outside the vehicle (most people are probably never in this position) and look up at the edge of your headliner. Just wanted to point this out, unfortunately I didn't think to take a picture of it and I'm sitting at the dealership while they're trying to sort it out. After they fix it I'll atleast take a picture of the area and point out where the separation is in more detail. Which brings me to my next point. Because of the fragile nature of headliners I've come to the dealership 3 times now and each time I've sat on my arse for 4 hours only for the service guy to come out and tell me the replacement piece was damaged during transit and they're going to order another one. This time I told them to check the bloody thing before asking me to come in so hopefully they've got it. We'll see.

Thank You for sharing.
I've personally have never heard of any issues with the headliner. I would guess that the headliner is kinda of a bulky piece and prone to have some damage even if it's marked fragile all over it. Hopefully they can get the NEW one installed without any damage. Good Luck. |

Yes. Nissan fixed it at no charge. They should do the same for you if you're still under warranty. If you're not under warranty you're probably going to have to pay out the *** for it. At that point I would find a reputable upholstery shop. To do the install but still order the part through nissan. This way if it's damaged on arrival you can leave it there and tell them to reorder.
Like I mentioned in my original post. It took quite a few tries for them to receive one intact.

Would like to know what parts were replaced, did they change out the complete head lining? I am thinking in my little mind that it is not worth the hassel perhaps to have this big task done just for the slight annoyance it causes me. I need to really look at it to see the issue. My worry is that basically them ( Nissan ) tearing out the parts to replace the roof liner may in itself add other issues that were not present prior to the work being done. |

Completely up to you. I had them do it because I was concerned it was going to get worse.

Thanks, I will monitor it. I can merely see some white areas of the roof liner edge present in one or two spots so will see how it goes. If if it gets worse I will remedy it. I was hoping they would have designed a rubber gasket that was perhaps a few mil wider and issue would be easily resolved since the headliner would then fully tuck under. |

The headliner being cut too short was a problem on mine from the 1st mile. I took it in and had them replace it, but ended up scratching and scraping up all my interior plastic pannels they removed to install. This is the link to the picture I posted about it.
http://www.the370z.com/nissan-370z-g...ml#post2299230 Just make sure that when you get it back, you inspect the crap out of it! My pannels were scraped up, the pannels did not sit flush anymore and had gaps, the new headliner was mis shaped and bent in the corners, and the top seatbelt feeds were installed backwards! First, the service tech tried to say all the cars have gaps like that and tried to show me another car to prove it. I said that may be true, but mine did not when I brought it in and I wanted it back to the same exact state that I provided it in. Last edited by ShutokuZ; 04-30-2014 at 01:41 PM. |

Mine was drooping in two places adjacent to the front windshield, but I was scared after reading the experience ShutokuZ had. I was at 29800 miles when I finally took it in for warranty replacement. I made sure the dealer knew I was going to be a painful customer if I wasn't satisfied with the work. They did a fantastic job (Round Rock Nissan).

in a related note: my headliner seems to have developed a rattle on the passenger side...it comes and goes but drives me crazy...of course, if i took it in and the tech./mech. test drove it, it wouldn't rattle...sigh...now, i'm seeing these removal probs you peeps are having...

On a side note, is the optional extra auto dim camera mirror on my base with sport back installed at factory or dealer installed? I am thinking the person who fitted the rear view mirror if at all was the dealer caused this. I also noticed a slight tension marks around the base of my sunvisor, indicating the roof headliner is not sitting true center. It is either that or as the previous person mentions cut too short. |
