Clutch stuck X1 & Loose of feel in cold weather
I live in Texas. When its below 40°F I have more play in the clutch and what I can describe as its too easy to disengage. Round Rock Nissan said its a rare problem and scheduled me to do a clutch flush Saturday with GTR fluid for a little of $200. They said a fluid change is not covered under warranty.

But when it warms up it's fine, right? :ugh2:
Sounds like they are taking advantage of you. It was 4 degrees this morning. Naturally the pedal will feel funky because it is cold... returns to normal feel once it gets closer to operating temperature. |

Grab a bottle of good brake fluid and let another shop bleed it for you if you're still on the stock fill. Otherwise, go on about your day until the csc fails completely. |
It did stick on the floor once
Correct once its warm I got no issues. I am getting worried because it stuck once. If it needs flushed I can get it done with the next oil change in about a 1000 miles. I don't want to get stranded.

Flushing it is no guarantee you won't end up stranded. Eventually your stock CSC will fail. Changing the fluid is a band-aid.

Band Aid
I figured as much. I will be happy to see my aftermarket warranty from Toyota pay for what what ever damage is done from ignoring the real problem, i.e transmission, fly wheel, and so on. It covers towing too! This GTR clutch fluid they want to put in must be something special.

Cold weather makes the clutch and the brakes hard to use. Hydraulic fluid thickening up. I almost got intimate with the car in front of me this morning because my brakes didn't want to go down.
My clutch also engages extremely quickly in this cold weather. Of course it was -4 here this morning. |
Thanks for the comparisons
I thought 17°F was cold here in Texas :tiphat:
I am going to just get it changed at the dealership with the magic oil and hope that works for a while unless my clutch sticks to the floor again. |

It definitely doesn't have anything to do with the CSC in my case. It's just because of the cold. |
TSB about fluid change with GTR fluid

There is most definitely a TSB to change to "GTR" Fluid made from Unicorn horns before they will warranty the CSC - if they decide to warranty. It's a coin toss whether the will or not. Some guys here get the CSC replaced no cost, others have to spend a lot of time (no one ever got more time, but every day people die with money), some times it's better to bite the bullet and pay to have the ZSpeed CSC installed by another shop instead of the stealership.... |
Warranty
I paid $1500 for an extended warranty from Toyota a year ago for 7Yr / 100,000Mi. Now that I am at 36,125Mi I am in the warranty under a 3rd party backed by Toyota. I am going to be making some preempted phone calls since it includes toeing and possible rent car. I read this can also damage your tranny.
