370Z Trunk Release (Dealership Issues)

My 2009 370Z is having the trunk release issue that has been reported on these forums (takes two or three times before the trunk button works). I checked the TSB and it states that it applies to vehicles built before October 2009. I verified that my vehicle was built before that time and called my dealership.

They checked my VIN number and stated that it has no active recalls, so the TSB doesn't apply to my vehicle even though it was built before that date. They are refusing to resolve the issue unless I pay for it out of pocket.

Thoughts on my next course of action?

The problem is that it's a TSB, not a recall. If you're out of warranty, you'll have to eat the cost. You can try to contact Nissan NA.

Alright, thanks for the clarification.

Try the nickle trick before buying new. Remove the "helper," remove the boot from helper, add nickle (or other coins/washers/&c) to bottom of boot, re-install boot, re-install helper. Getting the boot off can be a bit of a PITA but the second one will go a lot easier. I did this while waiting for warranty replacements.

If you are replacing the helpers on the hatch with new ones, it's a super easy DIY. Quarter-turn to remove the old ones. Quarter-turn to install the new. No sense paying a dealership to do that.

Got mine replaced back in April, shes acting up already. Buddy of mine said it has to do with the hatch cover. I plan on tearing all the plastic panels to remove the weight in the hatch area hopefully that helps.

Replaced my springs under warranty.

Find a better dealer. I got mine replaced twice because I swapped my new set with someone else's car (he was too lazy to go to the dealer)

And try this easy DIY:

I am having the same issue. I notice though if I wait after I hit the button to open the hatch it will not open. If I hit the button and then IMMEDIATELY open the hatch, it will open. so I am not going to bother to eat any cost or put my two cents in (to fixing my hatch by the penny trick)

and if the hatch decides to be a douche and never open again, I am pretty flexible and can reach for stuff ;)

Mine was intermittent.

Now with my add on duckbill I definitely have to manually prop it up with a finger after pressing the button. I am still under warranty but I assume I'll catch grief for the wing causing the problem...

If you are in warranty, you'll have to try and argue with the dealership that obviously the parts are malfunctioning in keeping with the TSB, even tho' its not for your MY, and see if they'll replace.

If they absolutely refuse, the parts (trunk lift springs) you need are not that expensive and are super easy to install -- check the TSB for the p/n and just order them. They're like $35 a piece.
