check engine light.....valve covers leaking?
So I took the car to the dealership because of check engine light. I think it was throwing misfire code.
Per phone convo with service advisor. (Seems like a new guy never seen him before) my valve covers are leaking and thats why throwing code. He was saying good thing I have extended warranty so instead of $1000 (whattttt) I pay my $100 deductible. He also said there is a TSB for 370z and GTR but he didn't know off hand for what but they will be doing that also for free of course. (Only thing I could think of is steering lock) Two questions/concerns? Only reason I could see valve cover causing check engine light is fouling plug but more importantly shouldn't this be covered under 5yr 60k powertrain warranty? Car is 09 with 48k. On a side note they replaced short block back in January, could they have done a shitty job at that time and be related? |
red flags going up here sounds a little fishy to say the least.never heard of a leaky valve cover throwing a code.also if they replaced engine and it leaks it's there problem. what you need is a new service advisor.

Picked up car yesterday evening but didn't get to see paperwork of work done because they need to redo to remove the charges. But he said valve covers were leaking but it's covered under 3yr/36k not the 5yr/60k. So that's why my extended warranty would come into play since I'm at 48k.
But then I said well the short block was replaced in Jan and valve covers is part of that, #1 thats pretty weak if its failing already, that means in a few months I could need to replace again and #2 isn't there a warranty on the short block job. He asked another advisor who said yeah should be 1yr/12k and told him to look up my records. Hasn't been year and I haven't driven 12k so they said they will need to remove charges and take back extended warranty claim and mail me paperwork. TSB was for steering lock, which I figured. |
Find a new dealer that doesn't have bozo's for service advisors.

But of all the Nissan dealerships in DFW, Courtesy Nissan is usually considered the better one.:shakes head: |
