Everyone experiencing this issue needs to call 1-800-NISSAN-1 or 1-800-647-7261 and file a concern in order to build a credible complaint that will hopefully spawn a TSB release for us.

These Lift Springs are $32.00 EA. I dont know about you, but I can think of better things to spend 64 bucks on...

:iagree:I noticed this issue also. I know there are many others out there with the same issue can we call on our members who own a Z to chime in and try to verify if they do or don't have this problem that would be a good feeler if Nissan has something to address for the immediate future.

Lloydy 08-07-2009 08:48 PM

I've got this issue, will call Nissan on Monday

frost 08-07-2009 08:51 PM

No problems yet, but appreciate the heads up. :bump:

kdo2milger 08-07-2009 08:59 PM

the spring lift on the top is the new spring lift.

the spring lift on the bottom is mine, notice the difference in length? its at least 3/8 inch longer.

I'm still using the two penny trick on mine at the moment, I tested it today and the pennies seem to be working...although its intermitten at best...

lol, i was actually thinking of upgrading to 3 pennies on each side...

I still want Nissan to acknowledge this issue though :)

Trips 08-07-2009 10:31 PM

I'l raise you a nickel!

kdo2milger 08-07-2009 11:01 PM

I'll be calling them on monday as well...it was already after hours today when I called...

AK370Z 08-08-2009 03:20 AM

added a poll. I want to see how many members are suffering from this. Please vote honestly.

I do not have this problem. I use my hatch quite often and it has yet to get stuck.

OMGWTFBBQ 08-08-2009 03:23 AM

I'm with AK on this one.

I'm not quite sure what this "stuck hatch release issue" is all about. I use my hatch daily (I change in and out of my work shoes in the hatch haha) and haven't seen it get "stuck" yet. Knock on wood.

Trips 08-08-2009 03:37 AM

Mine likes for me two hit the button two times before it fully releases to open. I've tried the holding for a second or two approach and that didn't work. It's a brand new car there shouldn't be a problem opening your hatch it's not the end of the world the dealer will have to look at it and see what they can do. hopefully it's not going to cost me will update.

rudi 08-08-2009 05:01 AM

Intermittent, holding button doesn't help.

mrarroyo 08-08-2009 10:53 AM

Nice heads up, will monitor mine in case it surfaces. Thanks.

Can we also add a poll for the front bumper/fender molding flaw that causes the paint chip as well. Maybe a seperate section for gathering info on recouring issues to get TSBs from Nissan?

TonyBPD 08-08-2009 11:57 AM

No problems here. The wife uses the hatch all the time and she reports no issues.

Update, Just got back from the Nissan Dealer they greased the latch mechanism and they tested about 20 times with no further sticking issues, now I'll give it a try later on today and early tomorrow to see if it's really fixed.:excited:

kdo2milger 08-08-2009 01:47 PM

hmm..i wonder if graphite grease would do the trick...

No problems with mine either.

kdo2milger 08-08-2009 02:06 PM

i wonder if the factory is putting in both sizes of lift springs, and some folks have the longer ones and some folks have the shorter ones

Trips 08-08-2009 03:51 PM

Anything is possible remember the issues with the dealer installing the wrong type of wheel locks and the subsequent problems. never rule out the human factor.

Chan Chee Hoe 08-09-2009 12:08 AM

Oh sometime,i need to press the button 3 times before the hatch can be open....i will check the spring now.

kevr6 08-09-2009 12:36 AM

I sometimes have to press it twice to release. I thought I wasn't holding it long enough! Good Info!!

kdo2milger 08-09-2009 12:56 AM

keep em coming folks...we need to get this documented in order to get a TSB released...

ENT-Z 08-09-2009 01:06 PM

I would say mine sticks about 90% of the time. Sometimes it is so bad that it takes 3 or 4 pushes before it will open. It's embarassing!

kdo2milger 08-10-2009 10:15 PM

So I went from two pennies on each side to three... I'll give it a day or so to see if that fixes it permantly...

still waiting to see how Nissan handles this issue, but in the meantime 6 cents is cheaper than $64.00!

I dont understand, Nissan makes a longer spring lift for the 370z than the one that comes with the car?

Yeah exactly what I was thinking...

Mine sticks all the time so I will take it in. I am also filling out the customer feedback survey and was told to raise any issues direct with the manager. I will raise this and ask for free replacement springs. Thanks for the part numbers.

I also found a paint fault on the weekend when washing it...for fark sake Nissan.

kdo2milger 08-11-2009 07:42 PM

Three Pennies Seemed to do the trick for me!!!

I have had a 100% success rate at opening the trunk with three pennies on each side!!!

so, where does that leave us? who knows...for now i'll will leave it as is and still engage Nissan to acknowledge this issue...

kdo2milger 08-29-2009 09:20 PM

so two weeks have past and i have periodically tested my trunk at different times of the day so the temperature would not affect the results...

i have had a 100% success rate with three pennies on each side...

i still have not heard back from nissan either :icon14:

at any rate 6 cents is a lil cheaper than 64 bucks, atleast until nissan recognizes this issue...

kannibul 08-30-2009 12:41 PM

Mine gets "stuck" when I have the roll-out cover in use.

I push the button, it half-unlatches, I push it again, and it comes free. I'm sure the extra pull from the roll-out cover is what's causing it, for me.

Blown32 08-30-2009 12:52 PM

Whats all this talk about paying for new springs? Its a new car!Take it to the dealers and have them fix it?

dealer wont fix it, i tried to get them to give me the new longer springs...

they couldnt duplicate the fault...

nissan hasnt released a TSB for it yet, so they wont do anything until there is a tsb.

tcarretti 08-30-2009 05:29 PM

I've got it happening about 1 in 5 times I use the hatch.

I've never heard of any such thing.I had 4 Toyota's and always had any problem taken care of no matter how small.
My first Nissan and not likeing what I'am hearing?
The hell with a TSB!Sounds like a big excuse to me.

IDZRVIT 08-31-2009 05:04 PM

My hatch release works fine.

Thanks to kdo2milger. Just did the 3 penny thing with mine. I guess I'm a little slow but to me pictures sometimes help. Since a quick search here (pennies + hatch) didn't yield any pictures, I went over to that "other" forum and with the same search, voila, pictures (http://my350z.com/forum/1191909-post40.html). Once I looked at them, I gave myself a great big "Duh!". LOL. It took me longer to find the pictures than to put the pennies in place. Now let's see if it's a total "fix".
